With Harps having offered so little, the contest looked over with over a quarter of it to play. Doyle then missed out on a third when he stretched out towards an Anto Breslin centre, only to see the ball fly over. Mulreaney, an Ulster minor-winning GAA goalkeeper in 2016, was making only his second appearance for the Ballybofey side.

Harps complete brilliant comeback to draw after King brace (Donegal Daily)

A Billy King brace looked to be enough at Finn Park but late goals from defenders José Carrillo and Ethan Boyle rescued a point for Finn Harps.

Shamrock Rovers defeated rivals Bohemians 1-0 in the remaining fixture. The visitors went into the break 1-0 ahead and in the second half, they almost made it 2-0 after Burns was in space on the right and his low cross found Eoin Doyle but once again Mulreany was equal to the shot. The Saints did get their reward for their chances after the hour mark as King turned well just on the left of the centre of the box to give himself time and space, and his powerful shot from 20 yards swerved into the far corner. Tim Clancy’s men then went up the other end after a slip by Boyle, Mark Doyle was free on the left and his cross to King was met well by the Scotsman who fired past Mulreany. Initially, Eoin Doyle found Darragh Burns on the right and he was 1-on-1 with Mulreany, but the Inver man saved well to put it out for a corner. And an Ethan Boyle header after a corner in the 96th minute gave Finn Harps a point, much to the delight of the Finn Harps faithful who didn’t leave when the game looked over.

Late Finn Harps comeback earns dramatic draw with Pat's (RTE.ie)

Two late goals saw Finn Harps fight back to earn a 2-2 draw at home to St Patrick's Athletic in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division.

Mulreany was making only his second appearance for Harps having got the nod ahead of Mark Anthony McGinley, while Dylan Duncan, the former Tottenham Hotspur player who signed last week, was in for a first start in central midfield. From the corner by Chris Forrester, 16-year-old Sam Curtis got a good headed connection only to see it wizz over the crossbar. Having conceded twice in the opening seven minutes of their 3-0 loss at Sligo Rovers last Saturday, Harps were one down in six. On another occasion, the visiting netminder came from his line and missed a punch on a Boyle throw, with the Harps defender clipping the ball back in only for St Pat’s to uncomfortably clear. Some of the home support were even heading off to beat the queues. Mark Doyle took advantage of a slip by Boyle on the Harps right to get to the byline and pull back for the inrushing King, who steered first time past Gavin Mulreany in the Harps goal.

He pickpocketed Dane Massey in the area and with the goal gaping, his ball across the six-yard box was cleared. Robbie Benson looked set to grab his second goal in as many games when a delicate flick by Daniel Kelly put him clean through on the target, but the Westmeath native’s shot was the wrong side of the left-hand post. Max Mata’s wayward header was all they mustered in a second in which Drogheda improved. Chris Lyons, Adam Foley and Darragh Markey were all introduced and the latter two combined for their best opportunity. David McMillan stretched to meet a superb delivery on the right-flank by marauding full-back Lewis Macari, only to see his strike drifting agonisingly wide of the mark. Keena then latched onto a direct ball forward from goalkeeper Ed McGinty but couldn’t direct his effort on target. They are also now one point further clear of the bottom two, edging away week-by-week from the teams directly below them. Aidan Keena was central to both Sligo’s opportunities in the first half. Massey’s late header was straight at McGinty too as the hosts finished stronger, but a winner eluded them. There was no shortage of intent in a frantic finale, but both sides ultimately had to settle for a share of the spoils in the end. But substitute Jose Carrillo pulled one back for Harps in the 87th minute and incredibly Boyle was the hero as he got a second for Ollie Horgan’s men to give them a share of the spoils. Two goals from Billy King - including a stunner just past the hour mark - had put Pat’s on the road to victory,
