There is every chance Minamino flourishes in France and Liverpool are left to rue sanctioning his departure without truly seeing the full capability of what he could do. Speaking during Minamino's loan stint at Saint Mary's in February of last year, Klopp insisted he was willing to be patient with the playmaker. The Japan international has promised so much at times after he was purchased from Austrian outfit Red Bull Salzburg back in January 2020, but has never truly cemented a place in Jurgen Klopp's star-studded first-team.

“Obviously there are more difficult situations than Taki’s out there in the world but it’s obviously not so easy to be in and out and sometimes these kind of things. But his character is obviously top-class, which means when he is needed or when I give him the opportunity, he is delivering on a top-class level. Taki came in, in a difficult time, coronavirus was there full throttle, no supporters in the stadium, in a good football team obviously which was used to a lot of things. I’m very, very happy for him that he can show that. That’s how it is, that’s why he is our player. ‘The deal for Minamino is worth a fixed 15 million euros (£12.9 million) and 3 million euros (£2.6 million) in add-ons.'

Monaco agree to sign unwanted Liverpool forward Takumi Minamino (Metro)

Liverpool have agreed to sell attacking midfielder Takumi Minamino to Monaco for an initial fee of €15million (£12.9m).

However, the money raised from their sale is not likely to be spent this summer, as the Reds’ transfer business has already concluded according to some reports, following the signings of Nunez from Benfica, Fabio Carvalho from Fulham and Cavin Ramsay from Aberdeen. He will become the third major Liverpool forward to leave the club this summer following the release of Divock Origi and Mane’s much mooted move to Bayern Munich. The recent signings of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez have pushed Minamino even further down the pecking order and his time at Liverpool is set to end after 14 goals in 55 games in all competitions.

Liverpool look set to join the departures of Sadio Mane and Divock Origi with Takumi Minamino, as his move to Monaco edges closer.

The Japanese international looks to have been a little frustrated with his game time and so perhaps this was a move that the player wanted, with our club happy to compromise so that we got more money and our No.18 went to the club that he wanted to play for. It’s a promising profit that is set to be made on the 27-year-old but it will take a while for the money to arrive in our bank and in full. Takumi Minamino could lay the groundwork for 2023 Liverpool ... (Liverpool.com)

Liverpool missed out on Aurélien Tchouaméni to Real Madrid, but they may have an underappreciated transfer advantage in 2023 thanks to Takumi Minamino.

With a high volume of progressive carries too (78th percentile), he’s clearly someone who proactively looks to get his team up the pitch and into more dangerous areas. In terms of playing style, he’s similar to Aston Villa’s John McGinn, a player Jürgen Klopp reportedly likes. And it’s a relationship Liverpool may look to tap into, given that Monaco place so much faith in exciting young talent. And Fofana isn’t overly safe when it comes to his distribution either: he’s in the top 25 percentiles for progressive passes and passes into the penalty area. The Principality side will be pleased with their business. The 21-year-old featured on a shortlist of alternatives to Ibrahima Konaté in 2021, and might well have remained on the Reds’ radar.

The popular Japanese forward has reportedly agreed a deal to join Monaco on a permanent basis this summer, ending his two-and-a-half year spell at Anfield.

“I was thinking that I would leave something behind when I went to the match mentally. “Nunez is a top player,” the ex-Premier League star said. Two centre-midfielders and Nunez, then they’ll be back challenging Man City for the title next season. It was difficult to maintain the condition and connect with my feelings. “He will improve and get even better. I was trying to inspire myself to prove my worth.
