'If, say, his character is killed off or otherwise indisposed, should this case be successful, then RTÉ will be legally obliged to find other work in another area of the company or terminate the contract with a redundancy package similar to that which is offered other staffed employees. Tony previously admitted that he thought he would only be in the show on a short-term basis, and never expected to be on the show for as long as he has been. "There was a big casting call for the audition and I had to go back for two more screen tests, and then I had to kiss someone on camera to see if I could do that, and then I was told I had it," he told the Today Show last year.
