“He said, ‘You’re interested in theatre aren’t you? Tony previously admitted that he thought he would only be in the show on a short-term basis, and never expected to be on the show for as long as he has been. Tony said he is "used to" and embraces attention from fans and appreciates the support, but doesn't appreciate when it impacts on his family life. "There was a big casting call for the audition and I had to go back for two more screen tests, and then I had to kiss someone on camera to see if I could do that, and then I was told I had it," he told the Today Show last year. He told the Tis Yourself podcast: “On my second night we were doing the show I thought I recognised somebody in the audience but I forgot about it and went back to work the following week. Explaining what he did, Tony said: “If you get your appendix out or you get a biopsy done or you get a leg taken off, it would be sent to us in the lab and we’d have to see if it’s carcinogenic or If there’s something wrong with it or what’s wrong with it.
