BILL MURRAY was a surprise guest in Thurles for the All-Ireland hurling quarter-final between Cork and Galway.The 'Ghostbusters' and 'Groundhog Day' m.

Tiger Woods is also hopeful of being fit and able in time for the Pro Am, despite injury forcing him to pull out of the US Open. He is currently competing in the US Open, and is expected to take a break afterwards, thus meaning he will skip the Irish Open, which runs from June 30 to July 3. While it is not known on whom he was cheering on the day, he was treated to a tense game of hurling which ended with Galway edging Cork.

The Hollywood star attended the match at Semple Stadium in Thurles, Co Tipperary on Saturday.

In a video posted on Twitter last year, Mr Murray said he’d signed up for the local raffle in Enniscrone, Co Sligo, in support of cystic fibrosis care. The trip to Semple Stadium wasn't Murray's first experience of the GAA – last year while touring Ireland the actor signed up for a raffle to win a signed Mayo jersey. Murray spent a number of weeks in Ireland last summer filming a YouTube series alongside author Tom Coyne to play some of the country’s best golf courses.

Murray joined businessman JP McManus in Thurles and was pictured in the crowd ahead of the first All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship quarter-finals between Cork and Galway. McManus of course, has links to Limerick GAA and had eyes on Galway, who will be The Treaty's semi-final opponents in a couple of weeks.

The Pro-am, which takes place just a week before The Open at St Andrews, will feature 20 of the world's top 31 golfers, with Collin Morikawa, Jon Rahm and Shane Lowry set to appear as well. Last year, Murray played rounds at Druids Glen, Rosapenna and Ballybunion as part of a partnership with Irish tourism organisation Fáilte Ireland. McIlroy and Woods are just two of a plethora of stars set to appear at the event.

Murray has a long personal history with golf. Last summer, Murray, who also starred in the golf comedy movie Caddyshack, and Coyne will played the O’Meara course at Carton House, Carne Golf Links, Portsalon, the new St Patrick’s Links course at Rosapenna, Cruit Island, Narin and Portnoo, Enniscrone, Connemara, Galway Bay Golf Resort and Ballybunion. JP McManus hosts his Pro-Am golf tournament at Adare Manor on 4 and 5 July, with Tiger Woods signed up to play in the event.
