And asked if he'd the chance to talk with Suarez ahead of completing his move, Nunez said to liverpoolfc.com: "No, not yet, I've not had a chance to be in touch with him just yet. But while the money being spent on Nunez, and the money that has already been spent on Diaz, may suggest a step change, the deals themselves allow Liverpool to remain within FSG's defined structure, one where they do what they can to make sure that wage liabilities both in the short and long term don't get out of control. Mohamed Salah sent double reminder by Darwin Núñez transfer ... (Liverpool.com)

Liverpool have been busy this summer with Darwin Núñez having been signed, but Mohamed Salah's contract remains a major item on Julian Ward's to-do list.

With Jürgen Klopp's contract extended for an additional two years, that process is set to be undertaken under his watch — as close to a guarantee of success as you can get. In short, if Salah wanted assurances over Liverpool's ambition, a potentially club-record-breaking transfer should answer that question. It was the Senegalese helping drive the team forwards, and yet he is now expected to depart.

Erling Haaland and Darwin Núñez transfer difference clear as ... (Liverpool.com)

On Tuesday, Liverpool announced the signing of Darwin Núñez from Benfica for what could prove to be a club-record fee. The Reds will pay an initial £64m for ...

The reality is clear: he will prove to be much more expensive than Núñez. Haaland, by contrast, will slot in straight in at the top of City’s wage structure. But the remaining £10m is linked to the player’s individual feats, the number of goals he scores and Liverpool’s success as a team. Yes, there will no doubt be additional payments to Núñez and his entourage too, but consider the disparity in wages. In terms of a base fee, he has cost the champions considerably less — £51m. The biggest transfer in the Reds’ history up to now, of course, is Virgil van Dijk’s £75m arrival from Southampton.

The remaining £8.6million (€10m) will depend on performance-related objectives, both individual and collective. The Reds have shelled out an upfront fee of £64.2million (€75m) alongside a further £21.5million (€25m) in easily attainable add-ons. Furthermore, the Portuguese club will lose 10 percent for ‘intermediation services’ which amounts to £6.24million. That takes the total value of the deal up to £85.5million (€100m). His move to Anfield will see the club break their record transfer fee of £75million paid for Virgil van Dijk in 2018. An extra £4.3million (€5m) will be paid after Nunez plays 10 games for his new club and when he hits the 60-game milestone, £8.6million (€10m) will be paid.

'I'm absolutely disgusted' - Gerard Houllier 'ruthlessly kicked' record ... (Liverpool Echo)

Liverpool broke the English transfer record for a goalkeeper when Gerard Houllier signed Sander Westerveld on this day in 1999.

“I didn’t know what reception I would get from the fans and the people at Everton, but from day one they were all positive and happy to see me. “I was in the stands for home games and not allowed to travel to Champions League games. “Still, I don't understand why I didn't get the opportunity to fight for my position. “I later found out why both Dudek and Kirkland had joined the club at the same time: it turned out that Liverpool only wanted to sign Dudek, but something went wrong with the medical examination. “I know what happened, but I still don’t understand it,” Westerveld told Planet Football. “From day one, Houllier told me and the press that you need time to adapt to the English league. In the first year, we had the best defence in the Premier League, and in the second year, we won the treble. “When I returned from international duty last week Houllier told me that I was the number three keeper at the club,” he said after speaking to his manager. I've got a lot of confidence in myself and will not allow anyone to take my place at Liverpool for as long as I am under contract here." I thought about it, but when Juventus came to the table I came to the conclusion that it would be a bigger challenge to play in Italy." You could see how important the derby was for you, and I need players with this mentality’. I walked out with a huge smile.” Van der Sar made a joke while we were with the national team that I had him to thank for my move to Liverpool. “They came to Amsterdam to watch him play for Ajax against my team, Vitesse. We beat Ajax 1-0 and I had a good game.

Indeed, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see more players moving in the opposite direction, just as Marko Grujić did last summer. In terms of where he would fit in, the left central midfield role in Klopp’s side may suit him well. Wolves had the option to sign him permanently for £18m but, unsurprisingly in light of those statistics, didn’t exercise it. And so he returned to Porto, where he has thrived. Nunes is a box-to-box midfielder whose stand-out attribute is his ball carrying. Clearly, Ward appreciates more than most that the Primeira Liga is a talent factory with an abundance of gems.
