Conor McGregor offers hope of early UFC return by finally kicking ... (Irish Mirror)

McGregor has been limited to training with his hands after breaking his left leg in his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier last year.

Chandler expressed his willingness to face McGregor at 170lb, a proposal met with more enthusiasm than that of former 155lb champion Charles Oliveira who has also set his sights on McGregor. Should the Dubliner not return before 2023, he will have gone three years without victory in the cage. A target date of April to return to full sparring has slipped considerably, prompting fears the former two-weight world champion would not return this year.

UFC 275: Jiri Prochazka scores late submission to defeat Glover ... (DAZN News US)

Glover Teixeira unloaded a huge right hand to blast Jiri Prochazka early in the fifth round and it looked like a few more shots would have kept the light ...

Santos was arguably up three rounds to zero with the help of a takedown in the first and third frames, where she also cinched in a body triangle. Still, Santos snuck in a late takedown in the round, paving the way for the final five minutes. Prochazka took the side and worked his way to cinching in a rear-naked choke, which Teixeira tapped to, crowning the new champ. However, Teixeira immediately went for a guillotine instead of a striking finish and Prochazka escaped the attempt easily. One judge gave the nod to Santos, 48-47. That means he was only 28 seconds away from retaining the title had he not tapped out.

UFC 275 fight fallout: Next options for Jiri Prochazka, Glover Teixeira ... (CBSSports.com)

UFC may want to pull the trigger on Prochazka vs. Teixeira 2 before it is too late.

Either way, the door is open for Shevchenko. The women's flyweight champion has expressed her desire to fight for the bantamweight belt by year's end. This might just be the frontrunner for Fight of the Year but they may not have two years to run it back as Zhang and Jededrzejczyk did. It may not have been an awe-inspiring, dominant launching pad to a super-fight, but the reality is that women's flyweight is hurting for fresh contenders. There have been few finishes in UFC history as thrilling as the dying moments of Jiri Prochazka's win over Glover Teixeira at UFC 275.

Prochazka never even got his legs around Teixeira -- in grappling terms, he never got his hooks in -- during the opportune, unorthodox choke. Prochazka landed some punches from the top, but Teixeira somehow swept and took Prochazka's back before the end of the round. Prochazka took that momentum into the second round and landed some big punches, a knee and ground-and-pound with Teixeira on the mat. Back on the feet, both men landed hard shots, with Teixeira getting the better of things. But back on the feet, Teixeira caught Prochazka pressuring forward wildly with a left hook that dropped him. "He was hitting me with body shots that took my gas away," Teixeira said. Teixeira looked early like he would run over Prochazka with his superior wrestling and grappling. Judge Michael Bell had it 38-38 going into the fifth round, judge Ben Cartlidge had Teixeira up 39-37, and Clemens Warner had Teixeira ahead 38-37. Coming into the fight, ESPN had Teixeira ranked No. 8 on its list of the best pound-for-pound MMA fighters in the world. Prochazka is the first male fighter to win an undisputed UFC title within his first three fights since Brock Lesnar in 2008, according to ESPN Stats & Information. "It was a true war," Prochazka said. Teixeira gave it all back and then some.

Not only did he accomplish that goal, but he secured a TKO in the first round after surviving an early scare courtesy of Emeev’s slick submission attempt. Jedrzejczyk’s run as a dominant UFC strawweight champion was instrumental in helping the women’s side of the sport flourish, and the Polish fighter absolutely deserves all the praise she’s getting right now for her body of work. The Brazilian pushed “Bullet,” but the more I reflect and view the fight back, the more I convince myself that we’ve been so accustomed to seeing Shevchenko hardly break a sweat that the mere sight of her in bad spots makes us think the situation was worse than it was. Or in the case of Jedrzejczyk, she went out face down after getting rocked with a highlight-reel shot. If Teixeira had kept punching in the moment, it’s reasonable to believe he’d still have the belt in his possession, but that’s the cruel element of this sport and also a reason why we love it so much. But I sit here the day after the fight feeling quite unbothered that Shevchenko is still champ. MMA fights are not scored on what-ifs, though, and the judges have to score what’s legitimately happening. In the span of just three UFC fights, Prochazka has firmly established himself as one of the most exciting fighters on the roster. It was an outstanding finish to an instant classic fight, and Prochazka (29-3-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) showed his mettle by overcoming some true adversity to net the second latest title-fight stoppage in UFC history. The same potentially could be said if Santos didn’t catch an accidental head butt that broke her orbital bone. This result is going to be nightmare fuel for the Brazilian. He went through hell against Glover Teixeira and somehow found a way to win by securing a rear-naked choke with just 28 seconds left in Round 5.
