After Padraig Boyle pointed a free Eoin Ross had back to back scores for the Kingdom, the second of those a sideline puck. They had 3 of the next 4 scores to make it 20 points to 9. Liam Ryan made it 9 to 6 in Wexford's favour after 24 minutes before Lee Chin extended the gap to 4. Kerry were then punished for over carrying and Lee Chin pointed to double the Wexford advantage. Chin made it 3 points to no score in the 6th minute and the gap was up to 5 by the ten minute mark. Lee Chin and Sean Weir then swapped points and Wexford were ahead 0-6 to 0-2 approaching the quarter hour mark.

Wexford hammer Kerry to set up Clare clash (RTE.ie)

Wexford set up an All-Ireland SHC quarter-final with Clare after easing past Kerry 3-30 to 0-18 at Austin Stack Park.

This Kerry team is nothing if not gutsy, though, and they settled into to enjoy their best period of the game over the next 10 minutes. Excellent scores from Sean Weir and nominal full-back Eoin Ross – either side of a Rory O’Connor score – made it 0-7 to 0-3 by the 16th minute, before Boyle arrowed over three frees in as many minutes to make it 0-7 to 0-6 to Wexford after 20 minutes. The best Kerry could muster in that period was a wide from Podge Boyle, and the early sense was that Kerry could take a real beating here before the last of the 3,000-strong crowd had settled into their seats.

This Kerry team is nothing if not gutsy, though, and they settled into to enjoy their best period of the game over the next 10 minutes. The third quarter started with points from Rory O’Connor and Chin (2). Kerry hit back with four points in the next 10 minutes – the pick of them a sideline cut from Eoin Ross – but Wexford were winding up for a big finish. Excellent scores from Sean Weir and nominal full back Eoin Ross – either side of a Rory O’Connor score – made it 0-7 to 0-3 by the 16th minute, before Boyle arrowed over three frees in as many minutes to make it 0-7 to 0-6 to Wexford after 20 minutes. The best Kerry could muster in that period was a wide from Podge Boyle, and the early sense was that Kerry could take a real beating here before the last of the 3,000-strong crowd had settled into their seats. The first half started ominously for Kerry with Wexford putting up the first five scores of the game – all inside the first 10 minutes – with four from Lee Chin, playing inside at full forward. The Slaneysiders were already on their way to being one of the last six left in the Liam MacCarthy Cup when they led 0-24 to 0-13 at the three-quarter mark, but goals from Conor McDonald, Rory O’Connor and Conor Hearne put a Wexford gloss on the scoreline that was possibly a little unfair on Kerry.
