Dan McFarland's side are in Cape Town to take on the DHL Stormers for a place in the final.

But the Ulster lineout goes astray and a number of knock-ons ends up in a scrum near halfway. An ideal start for the home side as they get a maul going and their powerful forwards keep driving and driving until they are over the line! Evan Roos plays a pass and receives it again before running in for the try down the wing. It would have been the try of the season but Stormers do enough to clear their lines. Ulster defend the initial driving maul well. A sensational piece of play from Billy Burns as he pulls off two chip chases in a row and nearly gets the offload off for a try. Stormers then try and go wide but Ulster defend it well before the Stormers knock it on. The Stormers are penalised at the lineout for crosssing and Henderson tells Cooney to kick to the posts. They go down the left, then the right before going down the left again and the Stormers give away a penalty. McIlroy misjudges a high ball to gives the Stormers the advantage and they carry hard towards the Ulster try line. They then try to get the driving maul going but Herring drops the ball the when trying to reach for the line. Kieran Treadwell has come on for O'Connor in the second row.

For Robbie Diack, home truly is where the heart is. On the day his two former sides Ulster and the Stormers go head-to-head in Cape Town in a URC semi-final ...

“He (Fletcher) was born in the Ulster Hospital in 2015 and then we had another son in South Africa. It was a massive thing for us coming back and our oldest boy Fletcher lived the first three years of his life over here and then was back in South Africa. He was ingrained in the South African system over there where a lot of play is outdoors, we have family and friends close by. The fact that we brought him back means we’ve been able to expose them to different things that we couldn’t have exposed them to in South Africa. If we turn them over, make them play in their half, we’ve got a strong defensive line,” he said. I’ve always been on the other side listening to past players so to speak of my own experiences, it was pretty powerful. “(I didn’t want to) bring my family into an environment like that after living in Belfast for 10 years, in what we thought was an amazing country with incredible people. “It’s been a bit of a whirlwind the last couple of months,” he explained on the Belfast Telegraph’s Ulster Rugby Round-Up podcast.

Stormers thunder over the line to score a try in the fourth minute. It's the last action of the half and Ulster have bounced back from 10-0 down to lead at the break. All to play for in the second half but Ulster lead at the break. Stormers have a penalty in front of the posts but go for the corner, but Libbok misses his kick. And the Stormers are taking the scrum. Ulster halt the Stormers' attack and win a penalty of their own to relieve the pressure.

The second-half began in unwelcome fashion for the visitors when Robert Baloucoune eventually limped out of the game with what appeared to be a hip injury. Stormers, though, were doing brilliantly to disrupt Ulster at the maul and deny them one of their usually potent weapons. It would prove to be a two-point reprieve for Ulster when Mannie Libbok missed the conversion. Instead, it would be Ulster extending the lead before the turn. The same pair combined in reverse to pull Ulster level. There were fewer than five minutes on the clock when, after the fit-again Damian Willemse forced the breakdown turnover, the host's maul rolled ominously forward for hooker JJ Kotze to finish off.

Stormers deliver late knockout blow to Ulster (RTE.ie)

Ulster lost out in their URC semi-final as the Stormers scored a converted try with the last play of the game to secure a 17-15 victory in Cape Town.

Kieran Treadwell infringed at a lineout but Vermeulen got his hand to the throw in and bought Ulster some space. Henderson carelessly gave away a penalty; Stormers mauled towards the line but got held up. More patience would likely have resulted in a try. One of those, Adre Smith, then proceeded to interfere with Henderson’s eye in a maul, pawing twice at the Ireland lock; Adamson decreed that it was a red card offence and the Stormers had to engineer a comeback with 14 men for the last 10 minutes. With the Stormers also eyeing a home final, they burst out of the blocks and had crossed twice before Ulster had a chance to update their clocks to the local time. All of the scores came in a high-quality first half except for the winning try and conversion in the last play of the game.

Ulster head coach Dan McFarland felt his side's late Semi-Final heartbreak was inevitable after they wasted so many chances to put the game away.

“We knew if we could get control through our kicking game or holding onto the ball, we could get that field position and score but we needed to add to that in the third quarter and we didn’t.” It’s disappointing but I’m proud of their effort.” “Fair play to our lads.

Somehow the hosts managed to hit back and win themselves a penalty in Ulster’s 22. They started to breach the Stormers defence with ease, and may have scored twice if not for a couple of untimely errors. Cooney slotted a penalty right on the hooter to give his side a 15-10 lead at half-time. The hosts set another solid platform deep in Ulster territory, and shaped to move the ball to the openside. The scrumhalf slipped on his approach to the tee, and the attempt drifted wide. The semi-final clash provided Ulster with the opportunity to set the record straight.
