The Celtics look to right the ship and embrace the comforts of home on Wednesday when they host Game 3 of the NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors.
If I can get in those one-on-one matchups and be able to play-make out of that and read the defense well, we can create a lot of good shots. Then when we have good offense and good shots, that helps our defense a lot. And Boston will try to rebound against a Golden State team that has won at least one road game in each of its last 26 playoff series, an NBA record run that began in 2013. The status of Celtics big man Robert Williams III could be something to watch after he was listed as questionable with left knee soreness. Right now, we're here playing a different opponent, a different team, and we've got to look at it as such. Unfortunately for Boston, it was done in by being outscored 35-14 in a disastrous third quarter on Sunday to see a modest halftime deficit balloon to 23 points.
Welcome to the Herald's live blog for Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the Celtics and Golden State. Is it hyperbole to say this is a crucial game?
The third quarter Warriors cannot be ruled out yet… Mostly because this is the Warriors on the other side of the ball. The finish. The elevation. I say he’s hoping for that, with his poll numbers in the tank. As Tom Petty said, the waiting is the hardest part. But put the Green drama aside — the Celtics need to do one thing tonight — and that’s hang on to the DANG BALL. Boston is 13-2 when they have 15 or fewer turnovers in the postseason and they’re… wait for it… The third quarter Warriors cannot be ruled out yet… While we’re celebrating that I always look forward to the blimp shot of the city lights. Close the deal, guys. The effort. The energy.

Golden State isn’t going to get any bigger between now and the end of the series. In Game 3, it felt like the Celtics were in Green’s head. Boston pounded the Warriors on the offensive glass with a 15-6 margin. Golden State simply has no answer for Williams’ length and bounce at the rim. The Warriors just often seem too small. Green is 32 years old now, and he was never the biggest or most athletic player in his prime. Boston now holds a 2-1 lead in the series. Jayson Tatum added 26 points in the win. Of course, the Warriors came roaring back in the third quarter as they always do. When Golden State won Game 2, Boston’s role players had an off-night while Jayson Tatum carried the scoring load. Draymond Green has always felt like a harbinger for Golden State’s success since their first title run in 2015. Horford only had two points on 1-of-4 shooting in Game 2.
The Celtics withstood another Warriors surge in the third quarter of Game 3, displaying impressive mettle to hold on for a 116-100 victory that gave them a ...
He made a significant impact on the defensive end by altering (and occasionally erasing) Golden State's shots. Smart followed up a two-point, 1 for 6 showing in Game 2 by tying his 2022 postseason high with 24 points on 8 of 17 shooting. Boston outrebounded Golden State 47-31 in Game 3 and snatched 15 offensive rebounds to the Warriors' six. Game 3 proved just how much of a difference he can make, however. But their ability to hold their ground and stymie Golden State's surge was a big reason why they emerged with the W. It also energized the TD Garden crowd, which was in full throat all game and seemed to have the Warriors on their heels early.

Curry has been the undisputed MVP for the Warriors throughout the playoffs, and even in Game 3, his 15-point third-quarter performance was the reason Golden State was back in this game. After the game, Curry said he had pain in his foot, but was hopeful he could play in Game 4. He slowly got up and was limping around and remained in the game, but he didn't look the same after that incident. Stephen Curry scored a game-high 31 points on 12-of-22 shooting and had 15 in the third quarter as the Warriors momentarily held the lead. Boston, up 2-1 in the Finals, withstood a third-quarter charge from Golden State, and put the game away in the fourth quarter.
