And then as more comes out, you guys will get a little bit more of the story.” But the idea was, this is a bit more of a teaser. “You get a little bit in terms of some of his motivation. Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, Black Adam is currently scheduled to open on October 21, and in this first teaser trailer, you’ll meet the man in black himself as well as a slew of other heroes. He’s a threat and they’re not used to having someone like that, who’s a live wire, that powerful, and so a team needs to go investigate.” “One, that the movie’s fun.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson enters the DC Comic Book universe as Black Adam in the superhero film, in theaters October 21.

Obviously all these superhero movies just require so much VFX, and we’re just in a situation where the majority of the VFX houses are just completely swamped with work.” Quintessa Swindell is Cyclone and Pierce Brosnan is Kent Nelson aka Doctor Fate, who encourages Black Adam to use his powers for good rather than destruction. Johnson stars as Black Adam aka Teth-Adam, an extraterrestrial who was imprisoned on planet Kahndaq for 5,000 years.

Dwayne Johnson is Black Adam in the new trailer for DC's latest superhero flick, soaring into theaters this fall.

Going on to explain how the world needs more people existing within the grey area between black and white, which is exactly where Johnson's Black Adam appears to dwell. Sarah Shahi has also been cast to play Adrianna Tomaz, Black Adam's main love interest in the comics, and the woman who is gifted powers by the amulet of Isis, which allows her to control the forces of nature. The aforementioned JSA are making their silver screen debut, with Aldis Hodge as the heroic Hawkman, Pierce Brosnan as the suavely handsome silver fox Dr. Fate, and Quintessa Swindell and Noah Centineo as junior members of the Justice Society, Cyclone and Atom Smasher, respectively.

'Black Adam' trailer confirms a surprising DCEU strategy to compete ... (Inverse)

In the DC Comics canon, Black Adam is the nemesis of Shazam who got his powers from the same wizard. But you wouldn't know it from the trailer.

The Inverse Analysis — The trailer for Black Adam hiding the character’s connections to Shazam! is no mistake. And maybe they will — if Black Adam brings the thunder. With DC clearly unable to find the cohesiveness of the rival Marvel Cinematic Universe, the studio has more or less approached things from a “movie first” perspective, enabling its directors and writers to simply create. What Happened? — The trailer for Black Adam was released Wednesday, after several days of hype from Johnson on social media. (The “Stamina of Shu” and “Power of Aten” for example.) But the trailer is strangely hiding that fact.

Even in the small bit of action we’ve seen in this trailer, Brosnan’s hypothetical spot in this comic universe is something that feels right. This is even more of an interesting coincidence, as today just happens to be an important day in Brosnan’s 007 history. As the new trailer for Black Adam is now online, Johnson’s anti-hero isn’t the impressive figure shown, as more of Pierce Brosnan’s Doctor Fate has been revealed.

Dwayne Johnson's super-antihero movie finally comes to theaters in October.

Naturally, that often involves electrocuting people to death with a scary version of Shazam’s powers, which, to the uninitiated, seems like something a bad guy would do. “Then I was reborn a god. “I was slave until I died,” Johnson says in trailer.

'Black Adam' Trailer Breakdown: All Kneel Before Teth-Adam (Collider.com)

We break down the Black Adam trailer frame by frame and discuss what it could all mean for the highly-anticipated DC film.

Chances are this moment happens at the beginning of the movie, when Teth-Adam wakes from his long slumber and tries to figure out what is happening in the world. In this scene, Teth-Adam is still wearing a cape so damaged by the passage of time that it looks like it belongs to a museum. This version of Doctor Fate sounds like the hero has already seen too much in his lifetime, and Brosnan is the perfect choice to play a veteran hero trying to keep his team together while new meta-humans show up. That kind of loss can devastate any person, and Teth-Adam will apparently use his pain to fuel his rage against the people he sees as evildoers. So, when he finally breaks free, it’s easy to understand the interest of the JSA. It looks like, at first, the JSA will help the anti-hero recover and get back on his feet, and they even invite Black Adam to be a part of the team. The trailer is everything we could expect, with Johnson mowing down his enemies while wearing the black and yellow suit that’s so iconic in the comic books.

Black Adam Trailer: Meet Doctor Fate, Hawkman, and Atom Smasher (Den of Geek)

The first trailer for Black Adam, starring Dwayne Johnson, is finally here, and it introduces the DCEU version of the JSA to the world!

That would be thanks to a dagger made of Nth metal which Carter touched, reconnecting him with his past lives and the truth that he’s the reincarnation of Khufu. That very same metal is what allows Carter to fly with his impressive golden wings. And, as the trailer teases, they have very different ideas of what it means to be a hero. In the comics, Carter Hall was the original Hawkman. Just like Black Adam and Doctor Fate, he has a connection to ancient civilization. In those TV shows–most recently Stargirl–viewers met Carter Hall’s Hawkman, who Hodge will be playing when the character hits the live action big screen for the first time in October. This is another character choice that proves how dedicated Black Adam is to exploring the origins of the JSA and the Golden Age of these DC heroes. It’s also very interesting as Black Adam’s birthplace of Khandaq was heavily based on Ancient Egypt which sits alongside Mesopotamia as one of the oldest civilizations on Earth. So don’t be surprised if we see some deeper history between Black Adam and Nabu. It was there that he was taught to wield magic and then eventually bestowed with the artifacts that gave him his powers, including that iconic helmet.

Everything We Know About Black Adam (Rotten Tomatoes)

We break down the cast and crew, the characters, the comic book backstory, and more, including details from the first trailer.

In the modern part of the film, Black Adam will face Justice Society members Hawkman ( Aldis Hodge), Dr. Fate ( Pierce Brosnan), Atom Smasher ( Noah Centineo), and Cyclone ( Quintessa Swindell). The latter two are more recent members of the team who can claim original JSAers The Atom and The Red Tornado as relatives. Also, it is worth noting the Wizard’s ( Djimon Honsou) own mention of Teth-Adam’s failure in Shazam! when he first encounters Billy ( Asher Angel). We imagine Black Adam will expand on those fleeting moments. After ten or so years of talking about it in one form or another, Black Adam will finally come to theaters on October 21. Sarah Shahi also appears in the film as Adriana Tomaz. Although the studio describes her as an archeologist, comic book fans will recognize her as the reincarnation of Teth-Adam’s long lost wife and, eventually, the superhero known as Isis. The comic book character has some rather twisty origins, though, which means older TV viewers will remember her as a different Isis ( Joanna Cameron) from The Secrets of Isis Saturday morning television show – in which she occasionally encountered Shazam – while avid Legends of Tomorrow watchers will recall her connection to Zari Tarazi ( Tala Ashe). We doubt those connections will come up in the film, but with a Multiverse just off-screen, anything is possible. Although, as the team is also comprised of legacy character in subsequent iterations, we imagine this version of the team will reveal almost a century’s worth of legacy, if even just in passing. The Batman, for instance, does not occur in the same reality as Justice League or Shazam! Nevertheless, we’re willing to believe Black Adam was made with the intention of continuing the reality first outlined in Man of Steel – indeed, Johnson’s own comments across both DC FanDome events suggest a showdown with Superman is something he wants to do. Also, we imagine there will be a good reason why they are dealing with Black Adam instead of the Justice League. That is the internal struggle Teth-Adam faces, of course, and it appears he will do just that even as he tussles with insurgents, well-armed militaries, and superheroes. At the same time, as Dr. Fate ( Pierce Brosnan) tells him in the trailer, he will be presented with a choice to save the world or destroy it. Black Adam appeared in a single 1945 issue of the original Fawcett Comics’ The Marvel Family as the Wizard Shazam’s former and failed apprentice. Writers like Roy Thomas and Jerry Ordway would take his single appearance and build on it to include a deeper history in the region, a long-lost family, and a position as Captain Marvel’s Shazam’s archfoe. For the moment, we’re assuming it takes place on the same Earth as previous DC films like Shazam!, The Suicide Squad, and Justice League (either version). Of course, with DC-inspired movies, film-to-film continuity is always up for debate.

How Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam Movie Is Changing The DC ... (Cinema Blend)

In the New 52 continuity, Billy Batson, a.k.a. Shazam, met Black Adam shortly after he was chosen by The Wizard to be his new champion at the Rock of Eternity.

Did the Wizard originally pick Adam’s son to be his champion, and then once he died, he was cool with Adam inheriting the mantle? When Asher Angel’s Billy Batson was brought to the Rock of Eternity, he learned how Black Adam had been the champion of Djimon Hounsou’s Wizard millennia ago; Adam wasn’t outright named in the movie, but it was obviously him. Or did the Wizard try to take back that power from Adam, and that led to the Seven Deadly Sins wreaking havoc? What if, just like what happened between Adam and Aman in the comics, Johnson’s Adam actually murdered his son after not approving of the way he was using his power? However, in the DCEU, it will be Adam’s son instead of his nephew, and the circumstances behind the transfer of power have changed. We’ve known for years that Dwayne Johnson’s Teth-Adam will also be a slave from ancient Kahndaq, and just like in the New 52, a family member of his will be granted incredible power before him.

Former pro wrestler Johnson has been extremely vocal in his enthusiasm for his new superhero project prior to the movie's release. In the flick, Johnson plays Black Adam, a lesser-known character from DC Comics who, in the movie at least, is a former Egyptian slave reborn as a God.

First 'Black Adam' Trailer Brings The Rock's Star Power To DC Films (Forbes)

'Black Adam' is the rare DC or Marvel movie where the actor is more famous than the superhero.

Just as Ant-Man boasted a comic movie star in Paul Rudd who was arguably more famous than Scott Lang, so too does Black Adam have an action hero movie star who is more famous than the superhero. “Dwayne Johnson in a Rampage movie” or “Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart in an updated version of Jumanji” is often seen by audiences as “a high concept Rock star vehicle that happens to be based around that thing I know” versus an IP > star sell. While Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson is one of the names that gets tossed about when discussing the last real-deal movie stars in Hollywood, he tends to do best when encased in a franchise.

The Rock Sees Black Adam as a New Start to the DC Universe (Gizmodo)

io9 spoke to Dwayne Johnson and the team behind the DC anti-hero film about what's coming next.

“I am 100% committed to not only Black Adam, but then expanding the Black Adam universe [and] the DC universe,” Johnson said at the event. I think that’s where the power is. “So this is the beginning,” Johnson continued. Both Flynn and Garcia confirmed that there was a script to that end but when Johnson read it three years later, he knew it would be better served as two movies. “I think right now it hasn’t been in our thoughts because they’re just such tonally different movies,” Garcia said. io9 was among a group of journalists who spoke to Johnson and Black Adam director Jaume Collet-Serra, as well as producers Beau Flynn and Hiram Garcia, about the project.
