A TD has been forced to live in a holiday home with her six children after being made homeless.Independent Clare Deputy Violet-Anne Wynne, 35, is on m.

She added: “We were privately renting a property in Kilrush for the last number of years. But it is not a sustainable solution for anybody. The former Sinn Fein TD was elected to the Dail for the first time in 2020 with the highest number of first preference votes in the Clare constituency. “I know, at the time of the notice to quit, even finding hotel space was extremely difficult and the holiday home was the only answer for our family. “So, unfortunately, we are currently homeless. Deputy Wynne said they were given notice to leave a home they rented for a number of years.

Ms Wynne, who left Sinn Féin earlier this year, said she and her family need a four-bedroom house, but the options available are minimal.

The Offaly native insisted that the couple paid 12 months' rent and a deposit until they began to experience financial difficulties. “Once hearing that I was pregnant on our sixth child, the landlord did issue us with a notice to quit for that very reason. Under the letting agreement dated December 1, 2011, a weekly rent of €63.64 was set. Ms Wynne said she was disappointed that Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald had not contacted her to congratulate her on the birth of her most recent child. So we remain hopeful and hopefully we do get good news.” Ms Wynne resigned from Sinn Féin in February claiming she had been “isolated” and subjected to “psychological warfare”.

Wynne says she received a notice to quit from her rental accommodation and was accommodated in a holiday home.

Asked about her salary by Twitter users, who argued she could obtain a mortgage, she claimed that she worked as a carer before running for election and “the banks don’t count that as money when your (sic) paid by the state. In a short video accompanying the tweet, she said the availability of properties was “minimal” and “even more limited when it comes to the four-bedroomed properties that our family size would need”. As a TD, Ms Wynne is entitled to a salary of €101,193, and a further €31,365 in travel and accommodation allowances due to the distance between her Clare constituency and Leinster House.

Former Sinn Féin TD Violet-Anne Wynne has claimed she and her six children are now 'homeless' and staying in a holiday home.

‘Once hearing that I was pregnant on our sixth child, the landlord did issue us with a notice to quit for that very reason. RRI sent 11 written warnings to the couple, requesting the rent. It was only supposed to be a short-term solution to our housing needs. The organisation, a registered charity, took legal action in 2016 and obtained a judgement for arrears of €12,126.40. The charity then obtained a court order to evict Ms Wynne and her family. It was far too small for our family size. ‘Unfortunately, we are currently homeless,’ she said.

She says in the two years prior to being elected, she was a recipient of social welfare and a carer for her son and claims that being in politics has has a direct impact on her ability to get a mortgage. Ms Wynne says the process has been “demoralising” and that her family relied on the goodwill of their landlord in Kilrush for a number of years, without which they’d be in their current situation much sooner. Clare Independent TD Violet Anne Wynne says she’s extremely concerned about where her family will go when the rental agreement for the holiday home they’re staying in runs out.

'Cost is not an issue, it's availability': TD Violet-Anne Wynne on ... (thejournal.ie)

Her claim comes weeks after a member of the Oireachtas admitted to sleeping in his car due to inadequate accommodation near Dublin.

“The Sinn Fein TDs in Leinster House I cannot fault but they are not tasked with making decisions locally and seem to be an entirely separate entity with no power to influence. I had the income to be able to afford such a move. “Since becoming elected it became a primary focus for the family to be able to move into a more feasible accommodation.
