Among the gifts brought to the altar to represent Gillian’s life included a photograph of her son Evan and Luke whom she adored; a travel book to represent Gillian’s love of travel and adventure; a poetry book to represent her love of arts and literature blusher to represent Gillian’s love of socialising; children’s artwork to representing her love for her students and picture symbolising friendship.

Rev Fitzgerald said he did not personally know Ms Daly very well. From a beautiful baby to a wonderful mother. Your nature meant you were worried about everyone else. "You were kind, caring, funny and always put everyone else's needs ahead of your own. "A person so young and vibrant as Gillian, who was in the prime of her life and had so much to live for," he said. As a sister, we could not have asked for better. After the two children were able to escape the car and swim to the quayside, they were dragged to safety by onlookers. A special tribute was paid to the courage of Evan and Luke, who managed to escape the sinking car and swim to the safety of the quayside. "There isn't enough time and there are not enough words to do justice to the lifetime of joy and happiness that you brought to the people around you, especially to me and our two beautiful children, Evan and Luke.

It's difficult for us to process what happened...in many ways, it is beyond our understanding.” He compared the suffering of Christ on the cross to the suffering of Ms Daly’s family now. The many personal tributes made to Ms Daly reveal how everybody who knew her thought very highly of her as a wife, mother, teacher and friend, he said. “Sadly the plans she made for the future with family and friends must now be left aside,” he said. She brought such happiness to her family, who had been immensely proud of her since she was a “beautiful baby”. Gillian was “the beauty of the family”, her brother Jason said. Their wedding on July 18, 2009, was the happiest day of their lives until the birth of their children, he said. Speaking through Ms Daly’s brother Jason, her husband John said he would be unable to get the words out himself but through Jason, he would share a small snapshot of the lives they had built together. “I had to do a lot of chasing, but it was more than worthwhile.”

Ms Daly’s funeral Mass was celebrated by Fr Jack Fitzgerald, who was joined by Fr Jack Twomey and Fr Dick Dowling, and it took place in St Patrick’s Church in Millstreet, 13 years after she and John were married there. “There isn’t enough time and there aren’t enough words to do justice to the lifetime of joy and happiness that you brought to the people around you, and especially to me and to our two beautiful children, Evan and Luke,” Mr O’Connell said in his eulogy to Gillian.
