And a tool called Passkeys is intended to replace passwords by using Touch ID or Face ID to authenticate across apps and devices. Meanwhile, iOS users in the US will be able to spread payments over 8 weeks on Apple Pay, similar to a "buy now, pay later" service. The system is embedded within Apple devices and uses cryptographic techniques combined with built-in TouchID and FaceID technology to lock a user’s credentials with biometrics. Adler claimed passkeys are more secure, easier to use and could eventually replace passwords for good. He also said passkeys are not as vulnerable to phishing and theft attempts because they are not stored in the cloud.

You'll soon be able to use your iPhone camera as your webcam and seamlessly flip a FaceTime call from your iPhone to your Mac and back again.

Apple said it uses powerful image processing to make it look as though it's an overhead camera pointed at your desk. Another new continuity feature will allow you to use your iPhone camera as your webcam. If you're on a FaceTime call on your iPhone and bring it close to your Mac, your Mac will recognize the call on your iPhone, giving you the option to continue your call on a larger screen.

Apple didn't mention fingerprinting at WWDC on Monday, as many expected – but that doesn't mean enforcement isn't coming at some point soon … ish.

In other news, the lack of privacy-related bombshells at WWDC may have been a minor boost to some tech stocks that are still reeling from Apple’s past privacy changes. (When Apple started rejecting apps with Adjust’s SDK last year for alleged fingerprinting, the result was a confusing mess, to say the least.) MacBook Air 2022: If new hardware does appear at WWDC, the consensus is that it will be a new MacBook Air 2022. Expect developer-focused talk about building apps for the Mac, while Apple should also reveal a new California-centric code name in the spirit of Monterey, Big Sur, Catalina and Mojave — the most recent macOS nicknames. As for iOS 16, look for a number of changes, even if Apple isn't expected to overhaul the software's look. In the case of iPadOS 16, the focus is likely to be on improved multitasking, as Apple watchers predict Apple's tablets will deliver a more desktop-like experience with resizable windows and easier switching between open apps. If anything, Apple's tvOS presentation could include previews of new and returning Apple TV Plus shows. The $1,299 starting price will get you the M2-powered MacBook Pro with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. Let's be honest, nobody is going to do that, so I went to Apple's MBP M2 page (opens in new tab) and pimped my dream 13-inch MBP M2 out. The latest MacBook Pro will also feature an FHD 1080p webcam which is a nice improvement. The new MacBook Pro with an M2 processor promises improved performance from its 8-core CPU and 10-core GPU. I rather not discuss Apple's promised percentages of improved performance until our crack team of testers gets their hands on the review units.
