With 10 minutes still to play, the scoreboard now read 71-14 in Leinster’s favour, a bad look for a playoff game at this stage of the season. Byrne’s conversion struck the post as Leinster went in at the break 26-7 up. Ross Byrne added his third conversion of the day and Leinster were 21-7 up with 25 minutes played, one foot firmly in next weekend’s semi-finals. With one quick flash of those electric feet he was past three Glasgow defenders and deep in the Warriors half. Jordan Larmour – a man perhaps lucky to miss out in Marseille last weekend – picked the ball up in his own half and sensed opportunity from a situation few others on the pitch would have fancied. Then just like that, the game flipped.

Leinster v Glasgow score recap and full result from the URC quarter ... (Irish Mirror)

Leo Cullen's men will need to dust themselves off after the bitter disappointment of losing the Champions Cup final to La Rochelle in agonising fashion.

A few misplaced from Leinster in midfield but they keep the ball alive and go wide. We are all square with Glasgow down to 14 men for the next ten minutes. The ball was touched by a Glasgow hand and so it's a Leinster throw, and Dan Sheehan gets over for his second try and his team's fourth. Michael Scully: Leinster needed something to happen and that Richie Gray yellow card provided the catalyst. It's been all Glasgow for the past five minutes and they win a penalty just outside Leinster's 22. The one-way traffic continues as Leinster probe the Glasgow line before Michael Alaalatoa stretches for the line. It's just a question now of how many tries Leinster will be happy with. A badly misplaced pass from Gibson-Park puts Leinster under pressure and they are forced to find touch. But Glasgow take too long to take the lineout and are penalised. The match has long been over as a contest but Leinster are enjoying themselves. Ten tries and a demolition job from Leinster in this quarter-final. He lifts the offload to George and he's over for a try.

Jimmy O’Brien piled the last dollop of misery on top of Glasgow when he claimed number 12 with four minutes to play. The hosts kept their foot on Glasgow’s throat with Michael Ala’alatoa next on the scoresheet. Ross Byrne converted all three to make it 21-7 with just 23 minutes played.

Ross Thompson added the conversion and Glasgow continued to tear into the champions from the restart to suggest another testing afternoon for Leo Cullen’s men. Caelan Doris hit three minutes after the restart and then Glasgow full-back Ollie Smith was binned for a deliberate knock-on. Half a dozen tries were scored while Glasgow had men in the bin as they recovered from their loss to La Rochelle with a performance to suggest that they will again collect silverware before this season is over.

The sense was Leinster had more in them and it didn’t take long for Glasgow to figure that out. Larmour crossed again on 64 minutes for 57-14 with Ciarán Frawley then intercepting and bursting in from the halfway line for 64-14. While Glasgow earned some territory late in the half, another attacking lineout two minutes from the break brought the Leinster first-half try count to four. Just 23 minutes had passed in the game and Leinster had already one foot in the semi-final. Glasgow began like their hair was on fire and were quickly into the Leinster 22, firing bodies at the line. It was all one way for Leinster except for four furious minutes at the beginning of the match.

Leinster v Glasgow: Warriors end season with humiliating defeat in ... (The Offside Line)

Glasgow Warriors suffered a humiliating 12 tries to two defeat against rampant Leinster in their United Rugby Championship play-off clash.

That proved to be the last time Glasgow were really in the contest, with Sheehan getting his second and his team’s fourth try off another driven line-out with just over a minute of the half remaining. Home No 8 Caelan Doris claimed try number five with just four minutes of the second half played, before Ollie Smith was yellow-carded for a deliberate knock-on with Leinster players lining up on the left to finish off what would have been try number six. It was humiliating for anyone associated with the club, the sort of performance and outcome which inevitably leads to heads rolling in professional sport. Warriors have now lost five games on the bounce, with the last two performances in particular – this and the 28-11 capitulation to Edinburgh a fortnight ago – setting alarm bells ringing. We’ve had some big wins this season, but that is what is going ot be on everyone’s minds fo the next few months. EXPECTATIONS weren’t high for Glasgow Warriors going into this match but very few people, if anyone, could have anticipated that it would go as badly as it did.
