Will Smallbone on the double as Ireland U21s give themselves Euro ... (The Irish Sun)

IT is one Balkan down and another to go - as Will Smallbone and Mipo Odubeko kept Ireland in the hunt for UEFA Under-21 Championship qualification.Sma.

It was good fortune that the pair were still on the field to combine for the goal as Evan Ferguson and Ollie O鈥橬eill were waiting for a stoppage to come on with the visitors on top. It was a goal his performance deserved as he was a regular threat, with a missed header in the first half while he also had an effort blocked early in the second half. He received a long ball from goalkeeper Brian Maher and played in Ross Tierney who returned the ball for Odubeko to drill the ball home. And he responded with a fine performance, with an assist for Smallbone鈥檚 opener on 16 minutes and then a fine second himself on 65 minutes. His opening goal was well worked - he showed his pace to sprint onto a deft flick by Odubeko, hurdle a challenge from Nenad Nikic and drive the ball under the goalkeeper. IT is one Balkan down and another to go - as Will Smallbone and Mipo Odubeko kept Ireland in the hunt for UEFA Under-21 Championship qualification.

Ireland Player Ratings As U21 Side Move Step Closer To Play-Offs ... (Balls.ie)

The Ireland U21s moved a step closer to securing at least a play-off place for the Euros after a convincing win over Bosnia & Herzegovina this evening.

Ferguson showed some nice touches after coming on, although Ireland did not seem too intent in committing bodies forward after taking the two-goal lead. He would have his goal just after the hour mark. Had a glorious chance to open the scoring for Ireland after 14 minutes, only for his header to drift wide. Smallbone was always willing to look for possession early in the game, but his passing did let him down on occasion. Kilkenny is the heartbeat of the team as currently constructed, with most Ireland attacks coming through him in some form. He looked dangerous at times, putting a couple of excellent deliveries into the opposition penalty area.

Ireland U21s 3 Bosnia and Herzegovina 0: Brace for imperious Will ... (Irish Mirror)

THREE GOALS and three points closer to the holy grail - now bring on Montenegro on Monday. Will Smallbone and Mipo Odubeko were the heroes in orange tonight ...

And his teammates were happy to oblige, knowing that he would rarely waste possession. He made a couple of loose passes in the first-half and struggled to impose himself in the game, but he was spot-on with his assist for Odubeko shortly after the hour. His low drive whistled past the dive of Damijanovic and into the bottom left hand corner of the net. The Motherwell ace timed the return to perfection, playing Odubeko behind the last defender and giving him an opportunity to take aim from the edge of the area. Goalkeeper Luka Damijanovic got a hand to the near-post shot, but the pace of Smallbone鈥檚 effort ensured it made it into the net. But orange has been a good colour for the seniors since the new away kit was introduced late last year - and it was a good look for the Under-21s tonight.

REPORT | Ireland U21 3-0 Bosnia & Herzegovina (Irish Post)

The Republic of Ireland secured another huge victory - their third in a row in Group F- in their bid to qualify for the Under-21 European Championship ...

And the Republic sealed the victory in the 82nd minute when Smallbone added his second and his side鈥檚 third, firing the loose ball into the roof of the net after good work from Wright in the build-up. But they wouldn鈥檛 have long to rue that missed opportunity as the young Boys in Green broke the deadlock moments later with Smallbone doing the honours. But it was Ireland that grabbed the game鈥檚 crucial second goal in the 63rd minute and it put them in complete control as they looked to earn another significant triumph.
