“I’m just really thankful,” she said. “I remember the first time I walked around the block around my house. “I’ve been reflecting on how grateful I am for all my doctors, nurses, and everyone.” I was really stubborn and wanted to do it even though I probably shouldn’t have,” she said. “When the classic signs of a stroke happen you should call 911.” “We need to remember that 10 to 15% of stroke happens in … patients younger than 50,” Majidi said. “I’m just really thankful that I got (to the hospital) so quickly,” she said. That’s the scary part,” Dr. Shahram Majidi, an endovascular neurosurgeon and assistant professor of neurosurgery, neurology, and radiology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, told TODAY. “The good part is that stroke is a treatable disease.” “It definitely has profound consequences for the patient because you had a first stroke at a young age and the last thing you want is a second,” he explained. “I didn’t think (stroke) applied to me.” “Our assistant principal came with me and she was telling me that it was going to be OK." Someone informed her that she was having a stroke and she said nothing.

Jailed ex-Eton teacher Matthew Mowbray banned from teaching (BBC News)

Former housemaster Matthew Mowbray was found guilty of a string of sexual offences against pupils.

He cannot appeal to have the ban removed. At the time Mowbray was jailed, Simon Henderson, Eton's headteacher, said he was "outraged" by the way he had "abused his position of trust and betrayed those in his care". One complainant said Mowbray groped his bottom with a "forceful squeeze", while another pupil said he "felt really uncomfortable and just froze" when he was sexually touched by the teacher.

'She put her own life at risk': Teacher tackles intruder at Tennessee ... (USA TODAY)

Nashville parents and teachers are calling kindergarten teacher Rachel Davis a hero after she tackled an intruder who raced into an elementary school.

The first student to walk in that day rushed up and hugged her and started sobbing. Davis urged the other teacher, and soon, school secretary Katrina "Nikki" Thomas was outside standing with Davis between the man and the door, trying to stop the intruder from getting in. Davis got a cast on her arm at a Nashville hospital and went home to recover for six days before returning to the classroom. "We just had this moment where we're hugging each other as the tears fell," she said. "She and Nikki and Shay are heroes. "I was shaking so much, and my eyes were really big. The man walked away, but returned, prompting the teachers to start getting their students inside, Davis said. I need to get inside!" "I was in full blown panic, trembling, and my legs didn’t want to support my weight," she said. "I need to get inside! Davis, terrified, planted her 5-foot-5, 130-pound body in front of the door, saying loudly, "No sir! "To play it safe, I said, let’s line the kids up...

Aoife Cassidy: Teachers are afraid to speak out about religion in ... (Irish Examiner)

While children cannot be discriminated against by religious schools, teachers can. And they know it.

Parents (and legislators) who say they are happy with the status quo might want to listen to their children’s educators a little more closely and consider the impact on them. We need to take a long, hard look at how we do religion in Catholic schools in Ireland. In most countries across Europe, faith formation and the sacraments are opt-in and extracurricular. I had good engagement on the piece from practising Catholics, some of whom see a real benefit of faith-formation and sacrament preparation taking place outside of school. To impartial observers, we are a strange outlier. It devalues the role of teachers in society, expecting them to compromise their own integrity just to “do their job”. This means that a Catholic school cannot discriminate against a child on the grounds of religion on enrolment.

“I was reinstated from that, and that was it,” she said. Could it be that she happens to be president of the teachers’ union?” said Scott Polk, a high school English teacher, arguing that other personnel matters weren’t similarly disclosed. Ritter said Tuesday she sought out the student because she was trying to find out why she had missed class. She said she was suspended the next day, initially with pay, though her leave is now unpaid. According to the statement of charges from the school district, however, the student was “humiliated and offended” by the incident — which also involved one of her classmates taking the tape and placing it over the student’s mouth. “If a student was showing they were agitated or upset by my action — it wouldn’t happen.”

Superintendent Hal Harrell said the rest of the school year was canceled. Biden said, before noting that in the 10 years since the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary, which occurred when he was vice president, there have been over 900 incidents of gunfire reported on school grounds. "We're a small community and we'll need your prayers to get us through this." "And don't tell me we can't have an impact on this carnage." They'll live with it the rest of their lives," he said between heavy sighs. Callers told law enforcement that he was seen exiting the truck carrying "some sort of rifle," a backpack, and wearing body armor. The school enrolls about 600 students in second, third and fourth grades. According to calls to law enforcement beginning at around 11:20 a.m. local time, the gunman, who has been identified as an 18-year-old male resident of Uvalde, shot his grandmother at her home before heading toward the school in a large, dark truck. They have domestic disputes in other countries. "They have mental health problems. The shooter is also deceased. And how many scores of little children who witnessed what happened — see their friends die, as if they're in a battlefield, for God's sake.

It’s very nice being recognized for, I guess, longevity, but for still retaining my passion and having what it takes to make a good teacher because if I wasn’t successful, and my kids weren’t successful, I would have quit a long time ago,” Mays said. They usually have good things to say and their kids have good things to say that their parents have enjoyed being in class and that I was a good teacher and that they learned from me. I’m not doing a good job, then I’m leaving,” she added. “The amazing thing is how she has so much knowledge and yet she still gives me that opportunity to grow. “It’s easy to love them and to show them that you care. You never have two periods that are the same. Students are now teachers that have come back,” Mays said. You never have two days that are the same. The middle schools were previously junior high schools and went from grades six through nine. She’s not just a mentor. And then my eighth grade math teacher is kind of the one that gave me the thought (of teaching). My parents were both in education. But there’s just so much testing now that that makes it different.

14 children and teacher killed in school shooting in Texas (BreakingNews.ie)

The suspected gunman, an 18-year-old man, also died in the incident at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, about 85 miles west of San Antonio.

One year before the Santa Fe school shooting in 2018, a gunman at a Texas church killed more than two dozen people during a Sunday service in the small town of Sutherland Springs. A Border Patrol agent who was among the first law enforcement officers on the scene was shot and wounded by the gunman. A heavy police presence surrounded the school on Tuesday afternoon, with officers in heavy vests diverting traffic and FBI agents coming and going from the building. It occurred four years after a gunman fatally shot 10 people at Santa Fe High School in the Houston area and less than two weeks after a gunman opened fire at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York, killing 10 black shoppers and workers in what officials have described as a hate crime. It was the deadliest shooting at a US grade school since the shocking attack at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut, almost a decade ago. It was the deadliest school shooting in Texas history.

School ordered to pay teacher €20k for unfair dismissal (Irish Examiner)

WRC rules that teacher, who was sacked after he made complaint against another person, was denied fair procedures and natural justice.

The dismissal was upheld on appeal and Mr Brilly was dismissed in February 2020. It is my view that for the purpose of transparency and fairness, a new investigation process into the complainant’s actions should have been initiated at that point in time." Mr Brilly stated that he wanted to co-operate with the investigator but was shocked at the contents of the investigation report and stated that the report was compiled without any input from him.
