Rangers v Hearts: Scottish Cup final 2022 – live! (The Guardian)

Will Rangers overcome the disappointment of their defeat in the Europa League final to win the Scottish Cup? Find out with Rob Smyth.

But at least Rangers won’t have the second leg of the Europa League final to play in midweek, eh? We’re about to find out what that gruelling match and the despair of defeat have done to both their legs and their minds. Today would be the perfect time to start punching upwards. The recovery of both clubs has been pretty admirable. It’s time for the Scottish Cup final of 2022. 15 min A long, crossfield pass is controlled magnificently in mid-air by Diallo. He gets away from Cochrane and slides a low cross that is booted away in the six-yard box. 22 min McKay lobs a dangerous ball towards Boyce on the edge of the area. Hearts have won this competition more recently than Rangers. They smashed Hibs 5-1 in the final in 2012, three years after Rangers beat Falkirk 1-0. Diallo’s ball in is cleared by Souttar, who will be joining Rangers in the summer. A great chance for Hearts. Atkinson played a clever through pass to Boyce, whose mistimed shot almost turned into a perfect cross for Simms. He slid desperately towards the ball but could only poke it off the outside of the post from close range. Diallo teases a low cross into Davis in the area. It wasn’t the easiest ball to take though.

Rangers will be hoping to bounce back from Europa League heartbreak at Hampden Park on Saturday.

Hearts have had a full week of preparation ahead of the game following a 3-1 defeat to Rangers last weekend and will hope to capitalise on the tired Gers players following their 120 minute battle in the gruelling Seville heat on Wednesday night. However, they have the chance here to end the season on a high with some silverware in another game which will be full of emotion following the funeral of popular kitman Jimmy Bell which took place on Friday. Rangers will hope to put memories of Wednesday's heartbreaking Europa League final defeat behind them as they prepare to face Hearts at Hampden Park for the Scottish Cup on Saturday afternoon.

Chris Sutton makes Rangers v Hearts dig over Celtic 1967 claim (The Scotsman)

Outspoken pundit Chris Sutton has continued to wind up Rangers supporters and a former player ahead of today's Scottish Cup final with a cheeky tweet.

Rangers ended up losing the final on penalties. Rangers have the chance to get their hands on silverware this season by defeating Hearts at Hampden this afternoon and Sutton posted a message on Twitter on the morning of the game. The former Celtic striker, who now works for numerous media outlets, took aim at Rangers fans and also former Ibrox midfielder Kevin Thomson, who earlier this week claimed that had Rangers defeated Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League final, it would have surpassed Celtic’s achievement of winning the European Cup in 1967.

He laid it off to Kent who tried to lift it to the back post but it's headed out for a corner. It was as well and Balogun got on the end of it but it's just over the bar. A huge chance for the Ibrox side with seven minutes to go. It's a corner down on the right hand side and Stephen Kingsley is going to take it. Tavernier to take the corner from the right and it's headed clear. It's a good ball in and Wright got his head to it but it hits the bar and goes over. This is a huge chance for the Jambos with minutes to go. Hearts have a free kick at the other end after a foul by Gordon and this is a chance to get back into it. The corner from Tavernier was headed out to the edege of the box and Jack took a great first touch to set himself up before drilling it off the bar and in. Halliday goes to hit it and he delivers it right in on top of the keeper but Kamara and Sakala links to clear it. Hearts want to bring silverware back to the capital, though, and it's sure to be a cracking game between the two sides. Everton starlet Ellis Simms was wanted by more than 30 clubs in January before he decided to join Hearts on loan.

With two years left to run on his deal at Goodison, he is keeping an open mind. For Simms, the immediate focus is on today’s huge final, and he will hope to be the man to fire Hearts to glory. The Athletic interviewed the Toffees loanee before the big game and reported that he was a man in demand before opting to move north of the border.

Rangers vs Hearts – LIVE updates (Scottish Daily Record)

Giovanni van Bronckhorst goes head to head with Robbie Neilson today at Hampden.

What a ball for Amad Diallo and the on-loan Manchester United man really had to score. It's very evenly contested and Ellis Simms has had the best chance of the game. He has to score. His link-up play with Liam Boyce and Barrie McKay has been excellent and it's causing Rangers a lot of problems. It's a wonder-ball in from Bassey. He needs to get over it and that needs to be a goal. That was the best chance for Rangers but Hearts had that great early opportunity and Ellis Simms seemed to go for it with the wrong foot as the ball smacked the post. It's been quite tense. Rangers need more of an attacking threat. The players are certainly up for it and are putting on a show. Calvin Bassey beats two Hearts players with a lovely bit of skill but Nathaniel Atkinson does well in the end to block the cross. Joe Aribo has done well in the absence of a striker but it's still not his natural position and it's showing. We came so far in Europe and in the cup, but in the end you have to work hard and today we did. I can't fault the players and the fanbase came through with 22,000 here today. Rangers are a very good team - they were in the Europa League final. It was the quality of the bench, the subs that came on changed the game. "Any chances you can get and you don't get in, there's going to be reflection. "I'm very impressed and proud of them because it's been a big week with the final and the farewell of Jimmy (Bell, club's former kitman) and today we had to be there. We had to negate them, but we had some very good chances. "Very important, it's always good to end the season with a trophy. But I'm happy with the players that are out of contract. We will enjoy this time and have a big party tonight and holidays tomorrow." "It gives us a lot of energy, next season is new and I can start from day one. Hearts came agonisingly close to the opener when Liam Boyce picked out Ellis Simms at the back post.
