Michael D and Sabina got married just months after the current president proposed to the then actress back in the Christmas of 1973. He was Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht from 1993 to 1997 and president of the Labour Party from 2003 until he was elected President of Ireland in 2011. Before becoming Head of State, Michael D served as a TD for Galway from 1981 to 1982 and 1987 to 2011.
