Aston Villa vs Burnley live: score and latest updates from the ... (Telegraph.co.uk)

James Maddison put the visitors ahead at Stamford Bridge, before Marcos Alonso volleyed in an equaliser.

Aston Villa were in command at Turf Moor on May 7, taking the spoils in a 3-1 victory. "This group works better when we play in the now, mentally we're in a good place. Burnley's caretaker manager, Mike Jackson, will be looking for more from his team this evening if they want to stay in control of their Premier League survival hopes. He plays a one-two with Watkins, edge of the Burnley D, and tries to craft a shot towards Pope, but it's blocked. But he's been terrific, he's a top, top goalkeeper. McGinn whips in an early free kick from the left. which ends up behind for a Burnley goal kick. It's a terrific effort. McNeil clips it in, there's a Burnley head on the end of it. It's a lovely goal from the Argentinian. He makes a run from the centre-circle, after initially being down on his haunches, and not picked-up at all by the Burnley defence as he makes his way into the Burnley box. A terrific effort, and a strong save. Brownhill gets a volley away, on the left.

Premier League relegation battle: Table, fixtures and final-day ... (iNews)

Watford and Norwich are down, but who joins them in the Championship next season will not be clear until Sunday evening.

When we got the first goal they made the difference. They have made the difference. Ideally we wouldn’t be in the situation we have been but when it produces moments like that, to go from low to high, I’m not sure I’ll sleep tonight. We have let the fans down a lot this season. And if Burnley lose, they will go down if Leeds draw or win. “We care about this club more than anything else in the world.

It was a man-of-the-match performance by the England goalkeeper and his Burnley team-mates were quick to acknowledge that. "The PGMOL said there was not enough force for that to be a red card. "I think that is a clear red card, probably one of the clearest I have seen this season. An elbow to the head of Tyrone Mings early in the half left the Villa captain on the deck. "I think we should have been playing against 10 men from a very early stage of this game," said the Villa head coach. That is a fact." With Burnley defending deeper and deeper, and Jackson making defensive substitutions, they appeared to have settled for a point. Everyone knows that is a red card. "I think Barnes is very lucky to be on the pitch," Dion Dublin told Sky Sports. "He doesn't look at Mings and that elbow is a bit naughty for me." Barnes did the rest from the spot. Jacob Ramsey was making some driving runs on his return to the starting line-up. But Jackson's side hung in there, broke up the play and began to cause problems from set-piece situations.

Burnley boss Mike Jackson has spoken out ahead of an "uncomfortable" final day of the Premier League season, with the Clarets and Leeds both desperately ...

We’re a little disappointed not to get the three. "The players are used to going to these places where they have to dig. While Leeds have fared reasonably well since returning to the Premier League, Burnley have become accustomed to battling for survival. This is a tough place to come. The Clarets pinched a vital point in a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa to leapfrog Leeds before the final round of domestic fixtures are played out this weekend. Although safety is far from assured, a point means Burnley will head into the weekend with their fate in their own hands.

Only in games against West Ham ( 2.86 xGA) and Tottenham (2.34) - two of the top seven - have Burnley looked exposed defensively, allowing 1.22 xGA per game across their other five fixtures, so all the signs are there that they are a better side post-Dyche. The Infogol model gives the Whites a 23% chance of winning at Brentford on the final day, and a 44% chance of avoiding defeat, meaning more likely than not they will need Burnley to slip up drastically if they are to survive. Leeds are in the bottom three heading into the last day of the season, and know they have to better Burnley's result to have any chance of staying in the division. The Whites have picked up 12 points from a possible 33, but have played three of the top five in that time, and even if we include those games their underlying process has been at a level we have come to expect from Leeds over the last few years ( 1.51 xGF, 1.59 xGA per game). Leeds moved back into the relegation zone after Burnley drew at Aston Villa, with the Clarets having a far superior goal difference to the Whites and know they will survive if they match Leeds' result on Sunday. Burnley and Leeds are battling for survival in the Premier League. Jake Osgathorpe has all you need to know for the relegation fight, including a data dive into both sides.

Brutal twist pushes fallen giant to brink of relegation; manager fights fan in ugly scenes: PL Wrap.

That proved a vital turning point as Richarlison, who has so often rode to his side’s rescue in recent weeks, did so again by firing a loose ball into the far corner. Jordon Pickford needlessly flapped at a cross and when Wilfried Zaha fired a bouncing ball goalwards, Ayew was gifted two chances to bundle the ball over the line despite the presence of two defenders in the six-yard box. The home crowd and team were given hope when centre-backs Mason Holgate and Keane combined for the former Burnley man to fire brilliantly into the far corner. They were undone again from a free-kick for the opener as Eberechi Eze’s delivery was headed in at the back post by the unmarked Mateta. Richarlison came close to giving the home side the lead when his free-kick clipped the top of the crossbar. But a series of calamitous defensive errors looked set to cost them as goals from Jean-Philippe Mateta and Jordan Ayew put Palace in command before the break.
