It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to manage a beach or marina to the excellent standards required by these award programmes. This years marks the 35th anniversary of the Blue Flag programme which launched worldwide in 1987, after starting in France. Traught Beach is one of five in the country which has lost its Blue Flag this over due to water quality. A sample of the wealth of flora and fauna includes wood sorrel, heather, bluebell and bilberry, fox, red squirrel, badger, otter, stoat, hare and deer and, if you are lucky, goldfinch jay, kingfisher and dipper. This trail, linking Ladysbridge and Castlemartyr villages through Mitchells Wood, offers a very pleasant countryside and forest walk on quiet roadway and specially constructed path. The Crosshaven Railway Path runs from Carrigaline to the harbour at Crosshaven with the Owenabue River by your side all the way.
