MORTGAGE scam accused Catriona Carey has been warned a bench warrant will be issued for her arrest if she fails to appear in court next week on motori.
Carey requested that the deposit be paid in cash for some, and for others the deposit had to be wired to a Careysfort Asset Estates account in Belgium or Germany. The judge issued the bench warrant threat after gardai highlighted how Carey had failed to show on a number of occasions in relation to the motoring charges. The accountant told victims that her company, Careysfort Asset Estates - which is registered in England - would buy their debt from their lender at a discount and then sell back the debt at a lower price. Carey, who previously played hockey for Ireland and camogie for her native Kilkenny, is alleged to have netted thousands of euro in a scam that preyed on under-pressure families in financial difficulty and at risk of losing their homes. Carey, who is alleged to have conned heartbroken homeowners out of thousands of euro, is accused of driving with no insurance and without a driving licence. Judge Geraldine Carthy asked Mr Hughes to communicate to Ms Carey that if she does not attend the court next Monday and it will result in a bench warrant being issued. Her company Careysfort Asset Estates took deposits and offered to return the fees if deals to buy their debts from lenders at a discount did not materialise. She is also charged with the same offences at Glendine, Castlecomer Road on November 21st last.
