A statement by Mellor’s Production company, Rollem Productions, said: “It is with profound sadness that we announce the untimely and sudden passing of our beloved friend, mentor and colleague Kay Mellor on Sunday 15th May 2022. Mellor was awarded the BAFTA Dennis Potter award in 1998 for Outstanding Writing for Television. Programmes Mellor has written on and created take in Brookside, Coronation Street and Children’s Ward along with The Syndicate, Fat Friends, Playing the Field, Girls’ Night and Band of Gold.
