How Brad Pitt's performance (however brief) as Jack Trainer steals the show in the star-studded jungle romp The Lost City.
In a film like The Lost City, star-studded and rife with explosions, this surprise reveal provides a necessary moment of levity. In The Lost City, Pitt's Jack Trainer exits the screen in a manner not dissimilar to his character Chad from Burn After Reading. After mounting a heroic rescue campaign of Sandra Bullock's Loretta Sage, Pitt briefly pauses to speak with Bullock and Tatum's characters and is subsequently shot in the head by an unseen bad guy. This classic comedy piece was perhaps the funniest moment in The Lost City. Just as Brad Pitt's Jack Trainer cements himself as the main character's best hope of survival, he is brutally taken from them. While the rest of this star-studded cast certainly hold their own as the action and comedy continue, one cannot help but feel that a little something is missing. The Lost City is not, and those who have not yet seen the film should be wary of this, a Pitt picture. However, only one of The Lost City's myriad stars delivers a standout performance.
Directors: Aaron Nee, Adam Nee Writers: Oren Uziel, Dana Fox, Aaron Nee, Adam Nee Cast: Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum, Daniel Radcliffe, Brad Pitt, ...
As unashamedly sparkly and superfluous as Sandra Bullockโs sequinned jumpsuit (an absolutely iconic get up for plugging through the jungle by the way), The Lost City plays like a party on screen, jazzed up in glitter and gold, and itโs not at all ashamed of it. However, with tech related gags, pop-culture references, a few digs at modern society, and the appearance of a rather magnificent cheese board, the formula has been updated to fit the times. The film bears all the beats of a classic 2000s action rom-com; thereโs some quintessentially tender moments of connection interspersed with a solid amount of bickering and a number of quick quips mined from opposing personalities.
