“It can’t be parliamentarians because they don’t have the evidence on the particular facts of [each] case. It can’t be editors who have an obvious axe to grind. The judges don’t agree. It was after her sister challenged her to write a detective story that she began writing the types of tales that would define her career. Christie made her writing debut at the age of 11, when her poem was printed in a local London newspaper. Christie went on to marry once again - Max Mallowan, an archaeologist who was 13 years her junior. At the time, Christie had ambitions of becoming a professional concert pianist or opera singer. Christie’s other famous detective series starred Miss Jane Marple, a crime solving elderly spinster. Hotel staff recognised Christie and police were alerted. Following an argument with Archie on 3 December 1926, Christie famously disappeared for 11 days. In 1920, Christie introduced the world to the soon to be famous detective Hercule Poirot, who appeared in 33 of her books and over 50 of her short stories. By the time Christie reached her late teens, she had had a number of her poems published in The Poetry Review, as well as having written a number of show stories. The name is a mashup of the famous mystery writer Agatha Christie and the acronym WAG which stands for “wives and girlfriends” of famous footballers. Rooney made the accusation on Twitter where she explained that, after growing suspicious that someone in her life was selling the stories, she decided to make up fictitious stories about the goings on in her life, shared them on her private Instagram and restricted who could see the stories in order to figure out who the culprit was. Wagatha Christie refers to the 2019 scandal where Coleen Rooney, wife of former footballer Wayne Rooney, accused Rebekah Vardy, wife of footballer Jamie Vardy, of leaking stories shared on her private Instagram to the press.

While the trial has been subject to intense media coverage, it has been labelled as a 'waste of time' by legal experts. Coleen Rooney had accused Rebekah Vardy of leaking fake stories about her in the media, including a private Instagram post in 2019. The feud stems back to October, 2019 when Coleen suspected someone was leaking her private stuff to the media.
Mrs Vardy claimed she had no knowledge that agent Caroline Watt might be “constantly monitoring” Coleen Rooney's Instagram account.
“Ms Watt doesn’t think you’re just joking when you say that,” Mr Sherborne replied. Mr Sherborne told the court Mrs Vardy had texted her agent: “Omg have you seen how badly Mrs F is behaving x … I’m actually disgusted by her x” followed by a message “leak the story about her shagging G behind H’s back”. Earlier on Wednesday, Mrs Vardy told the court that she was “just joking” when questioned about an allegation she told Ms Watt to leak a story about a celebrity having an affair with a footballer. Mrs Vardy conceded in court that it was “undeniable” that her agent had seen something on Mrs Rooney’s Instagram account but said she had no knowledge of Ms Watt “monitoring” it. She replied: “No.” “No, it’s not,” she replied.

She was accompanied in court by her husband, the Derby County manager, Wayne Rooney. It was also claimed that Vardy leaked private information about her husband’s Leicester City teammate Riyad Mahrez to the media in 2018, potentially destabilising the Premier League team. Vardy is suing fellow footballer’s wife Coleen Rooney for libel, with the multimillion-pound week-long trial under way at the high court. Reminded that she was under oath in the witness box, Vardy insisted she was certain a subsequent story about Mahrez did not come from her or Caroline Watt: “I was gossiping about things that were already in the public domain … It was an interesting story because it was pretty much unheard of that a player would not turn up.” Among other allegations, the court heard Vardy discussed a famous celebrity and suggested leaking “the story about her shagging”. Vardy told the court she was joking and would not have leaked it. Vardy told the high court that she did not systematically leak stories to the media and the idea of seeking payment from the Sun for the story was a “fleeting thought”. She said her real motivation in wanting to leak the story was to expose a drink-driver to public scrutiny.
Rebekah Vardy said she was "just joking" when she discussed with her agent leaking a celebrity love triangle story to the newspapers.
And just minutes earlier, under questioning from Mrs Rooney’s lawyer, she agreed with his proposition that it was “wrong” and “upsetting” for someone to secretly pass on another person’s information that they didn’t want shared. It was just a gossip that was all,” she told the court. “What terrible luck,” Mr Sherborne said. I was actually just joking about that one.” Mrs Vardy's agent and close friend Caroline Watt featured heavily in the day's proceedings. “To which she said ‘which police station? Then Mrs Rooney's barrister handed her a copy of a News of the World article from 2004 in which she made derogatory remarks about Peter Andre's body after an alleged sexual encounter between the two. I was actually just joking about that one.” I never gave him information.” Mrs Vardy said in relation to her message exchange with Ms Watt about the Danny Drinkwater story that “it was something that wrongly I got involved with”. Mr Sherborne said that in August 2019 Mrs Vardy told Ms Watt to “leak the Maldives stuff” in relation to what he labelled the “pregnant girl leak”. Mrs Vardy told her agent Caroline Watt that she should “leak the story about her s----ing G behind H’s back”,” Mr Sherborne said, and asked whether she had instructed her agent to tell the papers about the alleged affair.

“I was absolutely just joking about that one. Vardy told the court: “I didn’t know she was intentionally going to people’s Instagrams to check information or see what they have posted. Asked about the incident and accused of breaking the trust of Leicester and her husband, Vardy called the messages “speculation” and “gossip”. Vardy said it was a “bit of harmless gossip” when she contemplated passing a tip to a reporter about her husband’s teammate Riyad Mahrez going on strike. Vardy said she had read news stories about the woman involved, saying she was “shocked and disgusted”, but denied orchestrating a leak about the affair. Earlier in her evidence, Vardy said she was “absolutely just joking” when she told her agent to leak a story about an affair between a footballer and a famous married TV personality.

Mr Justice Warby concludes that the “natural and ordinary” meaning of the posts was that Mrs Vardy had “regularly and frequently abused her status as a trusted follower of Mrs Rooney’s personal Instagram account by secretly informing The Sun of Mrs Rooney’s private posts and stories”. The court is told Mrs Vardy was not referring to Mrs Rooney when she called someone a “nasty bitch” in one exchange with Ms Watt. A judge rules that Mrs Rooney’s October 2019 post “clearly identified” Mrs Vardy as being “guilty of the serious and consistent breach of trust”. – February 13 2020 – In a tearful appearance on ITV’s Loose Women, Mrs Vardy says the stress of the dispute caused her to have severe anxiety attacks and she “ended up in hospital three times”. – September 2017 to October 2019 – The Sun newspaper runs a number of articles about Mrs Rooney, including that she travelled to Mexico to look into baby “gender selection” treatment, her plan to revive her TV career and the flooding of her basement.
