Instead, Banchero feels destined to be an NBA star. Case in point: F1 announcer Martin Brundle thought he was talking to a different star athlete when he interviewed Banchero at the 2022 Miami Grand Prix. Paolo Banchero is already considered a household name to some sports fans.

The Miami Grand Prix brought out A-list stars from across the sports and entertainment world, which led to at least one confusing on-camera interview.

Brundle apologized for the miscue, and the pair parted ways with a handshake. After realizing the error of his ways, Brundle quickly cut the conversation short and walked away, letting out a bemused “whatever” as he reversed course. Sunday’s Miami Grand Prix was about as star-studded an event as you’ll find, with celebrities from across the sports and entertainment world out in full force.

F1 racing is becoming more popular in the United States in large part because of the Netflix show Formula 1: Drive to Survive, which means more athletes from other sports will surely jump at the opportunity to see a race in person. But, as we saw Sunday, it might take some members of the F1 world additional time to learn who the American sports stars are as well. That is especially true with the start of the race in Miami and the future ones in Las Vegas.

MARTIN BRUNDLE began trending on social media for his grid-walk interview with Paolo Banchero after initially mistaking him for Patrick Mahomes.

Banchero clearly saw the funny side as he tweeted: "I'm just vibing right now man." Brundle's grid walk is usually a place for the Sky Sports pundit to grab some time with the drivers and team bosses. However, Brundle quickly realised that it wasn't Mahomes he was speaking too.

The potential No. 1 pick was awkwardly confused for Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes in an interview at the Miami Grand Prix.

But, with the nature of live TV, mistakes are bound to happen. Banchero and Mahomes each had a laugh about it afterward on social media. The event brought out a star-studded crowd with the likes of Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Tom Brady and David Beckham among others on hand.
