John 'Dankys' Cash: Tributes paid to tragic Kilkenny stabbing victim (Sunday World)

Tributes have been paid online to John 'Dankys' Cash who was stabbed to death in Kilkenny yesterday afternoon.

A PRISONER was found to have a contraband mobile phone on him when he was taken to jail on the day he received a sentence. A garda spokeswoman said: “Any person who was on Hebron Road this afternoon between 12.30pm and 1pm, including any road users who may have camera footage, including dash cam, is asked to make this available to investigating gardaí." It is understood that Garda detectives have not yet been able to formally question him as the suspect was described as being “intoxicated” upon being detained at the scene. “Initial inquiries have established that the victim was walking down the street when he was spotted and attacked,” a source said. A 29-year-old man was arrested at the scene and last night remained in Garda custody in relation to the fatal assault. The suspect is from the Kilkenny area and at this stage gardaí are probing whether the stabbing is linked to a historic row dating back more than 10 years.

A DAD who was stabbed to death yesterday has been named locally.Johnny 'Dankys' Cash, 40, was killed at the Hebron Road in Co Kilkennyon Tuesday after.

"Gardai attended the scene of the incident at approximately 12.45pm. A man, aged in his 40s, was discovered with serious injuries. "A male, aged in his late 20s, was arrested at the scene and taken to Kilkenny Garda Station where he is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. "Any person with any information which may be relevant to the Garda investigation should contact Kilkenny Garda Station on 056 777 5000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station." "Gardai in Kilkenny are appealing to any person who may have information in relation to this incident to contact them. Johnny is a well-known member of the Travelling community and is believed to have been stabbed during a row. Gardai arrested a second man, aged 20s, who was at the scene of the attack.
