Katie Taylor has retained her undisputed lightweight title in a split-decision win over Amanda Serrano at Madison Square Garden in New York.
She said: “I’m not [seeing anyone] at the moment, I really genuinely haven’t got the time. She told The Athletic: "Probably the question about relationships. "I get it all the time. She said: "I just love the quietness, really. But I was going through a hard time in those months." From a young age, Katie’s interest in sport was strong, taking part in soccer at school, as well as playing Gaelic and Camogie with her local GAA clubs.
Perhaps the greatest sportsperson Ireland has ever produced, the 35-year-old has almost single-handedly carried women's boxing for the guts of two decades.
Katie moved into the professional ranks in 2016. “I was going from club to club just trying to get spars here and there. She said: “I would describe that whole year as turmoil. I was sleeping in the car in between sessions and I wasn’t eating properly. “I used to have my hair up in my headgear and I used to be known as Kay Taylor. When I took the headgear off at the end of the fight and they realised I was a girl, there was uproar. She recalled: “I think I was the only female boxer in the country at a time so I used to have to pretend I was a boy to get into these competitions.
