For Joe Alwyn, winning a Grammy alongside Taylor Swift was a happy "bonus of lockdown."

As Alwyn told The Guardian of his relationship with Swift, "It's just not for other people. That includes the piano portion of "Exile." Additionally, she credits him for coming up with the chorus to "Betty," which led to them collaborating on the rest of the song. In the special she tells her other "Folklore" collaborators Jack Antonoff and The National's Aaron Dessner that the actor "plays piano beautifully, and he's always just playing and making things up and kind of creating things."

It was just like baking sourdough in lockdown...The Grammy was obviously this ridiculous bonus.” When asked if he and Swift had discussed this kind of response to questions about them, Alwyn answered, “Erm. It was just like, well, why? “I mean, I’m aware of people’s … of that size of interest, and that world existing. Some of Swift's songs supposedly contain references to Alwyn, particularly her 2019 song “London Boy.” But they say very little on the record about one another.
