Judd Trump edges out Mark Williams in classic World Snooker semi ... (The Guardian)

Trump beats Williams 17-16 in thrilling Crucible clash · Ronnie O'Sullivan leads John Higgins 15-9 in other semi.

It was O’Sullivan’s turn to run aground on 50 in the next, but once again Higgins failed to fully capitalise, a poor positional shot leading to a spell of safety play from which O’Sullivan emerged with a comfortable clearance to move five in front at 14-9. Higgins had appeared set to show no ill effects from the Friday night drama as he took the essential opening frame of the morning, but a break of 82 by O’Sullivan swiftly re-established his four-frame advantage at 11-8. Despite firing three centuries, O’Sullivan was clinical rather than vintage as he mopped up after a succession of Higgins mistakes, the Scot showing his frustration by slamming his cue into the floor when he let his opponent in early in the 22nd frame.

Judd Trump surged into a 7-1 lead over Mark Williams after dominating the opening session of their World Championship semi-final at the Crucible.

We are committed in our support of safer gambling. Williams would have been desperate to win the final frame of the afternoon, but after Trump drew first blood with 53, Williams again missed from distance to allow Trump to chalk up another frame and end the session with a significant 7-1 advantage. The early omens weren't good for Williams, who came off second best in an opening frame in which he had his chances, and when Trump quickly doubled his lead thanks to a well-taken run of 70 in frame two, the template for the afternoon had been drawn up.

Judd Trump holds off Mark Williams fightback to book place in World ... (The42)

Williams had trailed 12-5 but clawed his way back to lead 16-15 before finally succumbing.

Williams fluked a red upon his escape but missed the following blue to the middle, leaving Trump with a scattered table which the 32-year-old exploited to the tune of a 49 break which put him on the brink of the final. Both players missed chances in the next, which Williams won to move within one frame of his opponent for the first time since the opening frame of the match, and a nerveless 137 clearance saw him tie at 14-14 at the mid-session interval. And Trump was unlucky not to extend his advantage in the next after kicking the pink into the path of the yellow after potting the last red, the Welshman wrestling back the initiative with a brilliant clearance to pink.

World Snooker Championship 2022 - Judd Trump repels Mark ... (Eurosport.com)

Judd Trump showed tremendous resolve to stand firm in the face of a Mark Williams onslaught to win the deciding frame and book his place in the final.

Trump was able to work an advantage and fend off his opponent to take the frame and force a decider. Unperturbed, Williams took it on and knocked it in to the bottom left to set up a stunning break of 137. Trump chipped away and held a slender lead on the colours. Trump missed himself, but Williams could not get to the table as he appeared to have been dazzled by one of the lights. He looked set to extend his lead to four frames after Williams broke down on 49, as he picked off the remaining reds and played a power black to get on the yellow. Williams left the arena on Friday evening extremely pumped up, but was soon back to his laid-back self -as demonstrated by the video of him playing table tennis with his cue case.

The two enthralling semi-finals continue at the World Championship in Sheffield with Ronnie O'Sullivan against John Higgins and Judd Trump facing Mark ...

O'Sullivan has seen enough of this frame as Higgins rolls in a blue down the side rail. O'Sullivan with a fine long red followed by black and a double on the red. Mark slices in a thin red to the left middle, booms into the pack off the black and then picks off a mid-range red to hold for the pink. Early chance for O'Sullivan to make a few after clattering a long red into the green bag. Judd plays on it but leaves a cut to the right middle; it's wafer thin, but somehow Mark overcuts it and he's left it right on the lip! Judd has the big shot gumption too, and cuts in a gutsy red to the bottom right and he's on the brown, with a chance to fire right back. The frame is in the bank, and Mark lifts the roof off again when he secures a century off the black. Judd goes around the angles off the brown to land on a red on the bottom cushion, and this is frame ball. Mark then appears to survive a double kiss, only to look on as Judd snicks in a wafer thin cut on it to the green pocket and he's on the black! He then misses a red to the bottom right by a long way, but flukes a red into the bottom left! He misses a bullet straight, longish red to the bottom right by a long way, and he's left a cut back to the bottom left. He clears a route for the pink to be available in multiple pockets, and then the black.

Trump withstands Williams fightback to reach final (BBC News)

Judd Trump holds off a remarkable fightback from Mark Williams as he wins a final-frame decider to reach his third World Championship final.

The miss came after he had failed with a relatively easy red to the right middle in the previous frame, gifting it to an on-song O'Sullivan, who made the 100th century of this year's tournament. I was praying he was going to make some mistakes and I had all my luck in the last frame. It was one of the best atmospheres that I have ever played in. But every credit to him, there is no question he can win it." "I was actually enjoying watching him and he was incredible. It made it easier for me to take because I was not doing much wrong.
