The Ibrox club have been hit with more financial penalties following their quarter-final clash with the Portuguese side.

Earlier in their continental campaign, Rangers were also punished for fans entering the pitch during the tie with Borussia Dortmund. Travelling fans lit flares inside the Estádio Municipal de Braga in a first-leg encounter on April 7, while the Ibrox club were also found at fault for the match kicking off late. The Ibrox club copped two separate punishments in the wake of their quarter-final victory - £30,000 for fans letting off flares and a further £8000 over late kick-off.

Angelino scored a contender for the Europa League's Goal of the Season as RB Leipzig beat Rangers 1-0 in the first leg of their semi-final.

He spent seven years on the books at Man City, but only played six Premier League games as he was loaned out five times. The other Europa League semi-final first leg saw Eintracht Frankfurt win 2-1 at West Ham. They will travel to Glasgow next week as clear favorites to reach the Europa League final.

Rangers to bring deficit to Glasgow after Leipzig loss (RTE.ie)

Rangers will have to come from behind to reach the Europa League final after losing 1-0 to an agonisingly late RB Leipzig goal in the Red Bull Arena.

With Aribo further up after the break, Rangers had their first real chance at the start of the second half when Kent worked some space in the RB Leipzig box and fizzed the ball across the front of skipper Peter Gulacsi’s goal but found no takers. With their first corner just before the half hour mark, Goldson headed Borna Barisic’s delivery over the bar but Rangers were soon defending again with skipper James Tavernier getting in the way of a terrific strike from Angelino. But Rangers were finally breached by Angelino’s moment of top quality with five minutes of regulation time remaining. Rangers were scarcely able to get out of their own half but Wright did manage to get them briefly on the front foot when he forced a corner after half an hour. Rangers made their first change when Wright was replaced by Fashion Sakala, providing an injection of pace and energy for the final stages. McGregor did well to touch a shot from Tyler Adams over the top but from the resulting corner kick, swung over from the right by Nkunku, Sakala’s headed attempt to clear saw the ball drop to the unmarked Angelino whose sweet first-time volley arrowed into the corner of the net. It sets up another potentially epic European night at Ibrox next Thursday when Rangers will hope home advantage can prove decisive. It was a night when the Rangers players needed to combine bravery with awareness in and around their own penalty area and Bassey set the tone for their defiance with a tremendous block to deny Nkunku after a poor attempt from Barisic to clear the danger.

Leipzig's Angeliño rifles in to hurt unlucky Rangers after battling ... (The Guardian)

Rangers looked on course to earn a draw before Angeliño's late goal gave RB Leipzig a 1-0 first-leg victory in the Europa League semi-final.

Leipzig appealed in vain for a penalty as Barisic clashed with Henrichs. The Germans needed something unorthodox, which was soon to arrive. Cue a wild celebration in front of the home dugout. In 16 earlier European matches this season, Rangers had not endured a spell without possession as was the case in the first quarter of this match. The change was immediately effective, Tavernier seeing a shot at goal deflected for a corner. Leipzig were jolted into action; Tavernier provided a desperate block from Angeliño’s half-volley after a spell of pinball inside the Rangers penalty area. RB Leipzig and Rangers had been embroiled in a taut encounter which endorsed time-honoured theories about the mundane nature of semi-finals.

"Now Rangers have to come - maybe not from the start - but they have to come out more and when there are more spaces we are better." "A 1-0 defeat away from home in Europe, we can overcome that and Ibrox will give us the energy." In the 75th minute Gulacsi gathered a long-distance effort from Kent before Nkunku beat Bassey to a header but again missed the target and then McGregor tipped a shot from Tyler Adams over the bar. The Light Blues were without a recognised striker but still managed to come out of their tie with RB Leipzig with the game firmly in the balance.

In saying that, sometimes you have to hold your hands up and say you’ve been beaten by a great goal. "Aribo through the middle was working really well. "Perhaps they should have got tighter. Great volley from him but Ryan Jack was maybe ball-watching. "He brings other players closer. I don't think he gives you that."
