Davy Fitzgerald Could Hardly Hide His Delight After Clare Defeat ... (Balls.ie)

Davy Fitzgerald could barely hide his delight after Clare's 3-21 to 2-16 Munster Hurling GAA Championship victory over Tipperary at Semple Stadium earlier ...

They also managed a second goal soon after after a shocking error from Clare keeper Eibhear Quilligan. ⌨️ https://t.co/cIHsbeHYDB Clare dominated the majority of the game and scored their first goal through Ian Galvin, after eight minutes. As a Clare person I know that the talent is there and it’s great to see it today. I didn’t see as much of it in the second half but definitely the first. I’ve worked with a lot of these guys and they showed their potential today.

Again, Hogan denied Conlon but the ball ballooned nicely for Duggan to tap in.

Lar Corbett: Today is must win for both Tipp and Clare - and I think it ... (Independent.ie)

Tipperary v Clare today is a must-win game for both teams – a throwback to the Munster Championship of old, with just about everything on the line so early ...

But back to the hurling. It would match the effort going in from players and management. Clare, meanwhile, will need John Conlon to dominate physically. They again meet both sides before the game. What’s fashionable for the assessors now will have gone out the window by then. In hurling these days, we don’t really have rules – we have refereeing opinions.

Clare must hit ground running in crucial trip to Tipp (RTE.ie)

Last weekend's results have given added importance to Clare's opening Munster hurling championship game, against Tipperary in Thurles today.

Lohan was trying to find a six and thinks he needs him in the backs." I expect a big run from Clare this year if they get a chance at all." "Outside of Clare we were probably written off before the championship. Peter was a part of that because he had a huge year in 2018 but then emigrated for a while. In my days playing, I was never thinking I’d play a bit better with a certain person on the sideline. "They haven’t had a match yet, Tipp have the advantage of having a game. Another subplot is the absence of Tipp coach Tommy Dunne, who was sent off for a heated half-time debate with Johnny Murphy last weekend. I do think Clare would have gone on to win that day if it wasn't for that. Cork and Tipp have been beaten once and need to get back on track. "They proved us all wrong – played really well and could have won the match. "Tipperary surprised us really," he told RTÉ Sport. "We didn't know how they were going to go. The Banner's dramatic final-round win in in 2018 was reverentially reported as their first against Tipperary in championship in Thurles in over 90 years.

GAA: Munster Senior Hurling Championship Round 2 Preview. By Shane Brophy. TIPPERARY v CLARE. FBD Semple Stadium. Sunday 24th April. Throw-in @ 2.00pm.

With a trip to Limerick to come, Tipp’s best chance of qualifying for the All-Ireland series is by winning their two home games so the pressure is really on to claim the two points on Sunday. They have also blown off the cobwebs in having a game under their belts and that is an advantage. Ger Browne certainly provides legs and with the impact the new faces brought last weekend, he would give more of that, but the case for John McGrath is very strong. Tipp have some momentum to carry over from last Sunday, as even the players and management probably didn’t know what they could do until they tasted the white heat of battle. In the first half, their workrate was superb, particularly in attack in forcing Waterford turnovers and converting them into scores. However, purple patches against Tipperary are becoming very costly in recent times, Tipp went from four up to six down in eleven minutes last week.

Kehoe then gets his first point of the day. Down the other end, Forde gets his third free. Down the other end, Forde gets his third free.
