Arsenal vs Manchester United LIVE: Premier League latest score ... (The Independent)

Follow live updates as Arsenal host Manchester United in the race for the Premier League's top four.

Incredible start for Arsenal and a great moment for Tavares who scores his first Gunners goal. United haven’t fallen apart since conceding but this is all Arsenal at the moment. United aren’t sleeping as Sancho gets into the box and then he and Ronaldo call for a handball. It’s threaded through the players and Diallo hits a stunning ball which hits the woodwork. A shot came in but De Gea saved. I think he is staying on the pitch. Follow live updates as Arsenal face Manchester United in a match that could prove crucial in the Premier League top-four race. United are now looking to produce a similar result, following their humiliating 4-0 defeat to Liverpool in midweek, and three points would get Ralf Rangnick’s side back in the race. The size of the task facing Ten Hag was made clear by United’s performance at Anfield and there will be a number of players in Rangnick’s squad who could now be fighting for their own futures at the club. Both these teams have struggled for consistency in recent weeks and a draw would do little for either side, with Tottenham facing Brentford in tonight’s later game. Arsenal 1-0 Manchester United, 25 mins Arsenal 1-0 Manchester United, 30 mins

United have to go and beat Arsenal, the players that want to stay at Manchester United have to turn up in this game and show everybody that they want to be a part of the future. To get anything, United have to be a team. It's very difficult to see Manchester United getting a result after the recent performances, which look as if United are just turning up and they can't wait for the end of the season. Just drop @TomCantonMedia a DM for details on how to get involved. If the players that stay and want to be a part of a United team in the Champions League, this is a must-win game and hopefully there's some kind of response, but fans have been waiting for a while and it hasn't come. There will be an extra incentive for Arsenal to get the win, after disappointingly losing the reverse fixture 3-2 this season. A win for Arsenal against Manchester United on Saturday afternoon will take Arteta's team six points ahead of Ralf Rangnick's side, with still an extra game in hand to play. Arsenal's pressure in the first few moments has been telling. Arsenal writers Chris Wheatley, Kaya Kaynak and Tom Canton will be updating you throughout the day. Saka shoots and David De Gea just palms it into Tavares' path to slot home an open goal. A win will also give the north London side breathing space in the top four race. I haven't got any great expectation that we'll turn up there and get a result.

Excellent save from Ramsdale to turn Dalot's shot on to the post after another good pass from Ronaldo down the right of the box.

Arsenal are in their Herbert Chapman white-sleeved red shirts. Arsenal waste a couple of crossing opportunities, first from Tavares, then from Cedric but Xhaka takes the chance to swing in a deep cross from the left. Ramsdale blunders with a side-foot pass into midfield that is picked off easily by McTominay who pops off a pass to his left. Ramsdale almost tees up Man Utd again with a lax short pass. Dalot hits the bar from 20 yards with a chip moments after their penalty appeal was turned down for Cedric's handball. But he thumps it straight at De Gea who blocks with a strong arm. Lindelof holds Nketiah at bay and makes him lay it off to Tavares. Varane heads the left-back's cross away with emphatic force. Arsenal deserve their lead but they look significantly more tentative at the back than they did at Stamford Bridge while seeming just as devastating in attack. From the throw-in Arsenal switch it to the left via Odegaard and Nketiah and send Tavares into the box. Tavares bends another cross in from the left but sends it out of play. Dalot has hit the bar and had a shot diverted on to the post. McTominay and Gabriel have digs at each other while on the floor with some shoving and poking.

90 mins to KO: Welcome to The Sporting News' coverage of Arsenal vs. It made it through to Saka on the right. Cristiano Ronaldo returns to the starting lineup after missing the Liverpool game on compassionate grounds. 3 mins to KO: Mikel Arteta has been emphasising the need for the fans to get behind the team ahead of this game, and they've clearly listened. A cross comes in which seems like it should be simple to deal with, but it beat the United centre halves and Telles couldn't deal with it. Elanga was put through on the right, and fired a shot at Aaron Ramsdale. That was followed by a corner from the right. The hosts saw most of the ball in the opening minutes. 11th min: Aaron Ramsdale's attempted pass is intercepted, and Bruno Fernandes takes a shot from the edge of area, with Ramsdale out of his goal. 19th min: Arsenal play out from a goal kick, finding Nketiah on the halfway line. 31st min: The referee goes across to the pitchside monitor. United will be licking their wounds after a 4-0 loss to Liverpool, and the mood at Old Trafford is bleak, despite the announcement of Erik ten Hag as next season's manager. The hosts were struggling for goals before they put four past Chelsea, and the Gunners look to have found their firepower just in time.

Arsenal vs Manchester United: The Gunners can effectively end the Red Devils' top-four hopes while boosting their own when they meet in north London.

As things stand, Manchester United (54 points) already trail Arsenal (57 points) by three points while having played one more game. KICK OFF: 5th-place Arsenal host 6th-place Manchester United with the Gunners having a three-point over their rivals. Good chance for United on the counter. No penalty kick but that is worrying for Arsenal. Ronaldo and Elanga have looked promising. Brilliant cross from Matic and that is a superb finish from Ronaldo. Game on. HALF TIME: Arsenal 2-1 Manchester United – That was one of the most dramatic 45 minutes of the season. Nuno Tavares skies a shot way over from inside the box as he had a lot more time than he thought. Penalty kick to Manchester United! Nuno Tavares handles in the box with his arm raised high in the air. It is all Manchester United and Ronaldo is leading the charge! FULL TIME: Arsenal 3-1 Manchester United – What a thrilling game. He also said United weren’t happy with the VAR decisions. As for Ralf Rangnick, he says that Manchester United were ‘very unlucky’ at Arsenal and it’s hard to disagree with that.

How the Gunners got on individually in their Premier League clash with the Red Devils at the Emirates Stadium.

Lead the team through their difficult spell at the start of second half encouraging concentration before rifling a sublime third past David De Gea. When Arsenal have needed Xhaka at the most important part of the season he has stepped up and delivered. So secure in possession and really unlucky not to have the assist of the season for his ball to Nketiah in the first half. Mohamed Elneny: Another solid display from the Egyptian who was tidy in possession in front of the backline. Gave the ball away a lot and gave away a ridiculous penalty for a completely needless handball. Gabriel: Seemed to lose the flight of the ball from the cross that led to Ronaldo's goal and was far from his assured self. Looked revitalised after Fernandes' penalty miss though and pulled off a sublime save to stop Dalot. 5.

Arsenal's wild win vs. Man United showed why top-four battle is ... (ESPN)

Arsenal's chaotic 3-1 victory over Manchester United underlined why the clubs vying for fourth place in the Premier League need it so desperately.

"But again, this is why we have a VAR, and you should expect if the referee plus the VAR check, they should in the end take the right decision. We were at least unlucky, but again, we have to get better at defending the box. If he is to be the focal point of a new United side, the 27-year-old has to find more efficiency in his play than this. "My belief is that we are going to give it a real go; we can win football matches, but the margins are going to be really small and we have to be very aware of that," Arteta said postmatch. But Fernandes was so wasteful in open play that the worst thing he could have done was turn his penalty into a pass, rolling the ball against Ramsdale's right-hand post. Neither team can be relied upon for any consistency if they continue to defend like this and yet, back-to-back wins -- following three consecutive defeats -- elevated Arsenal into fourth place ahead of Tottenham's trip to Brentford later in the day.

Highlights: Arsenal claim big win over Man United | Video | News (Arsenal.com)

Goals from Nuno Tavares, Bukayo Saka and Granit Xhaka were enough to give us all three points in a thrilling encounter at Emirates Stadium.

Winning and losing in this league and where we are today, is defined by the small margins, so everything has to be there to take the game where we want at the end of the 95 minutes. This changes so quickly, but my belief is that we’re going to give it a real go, we can win football matches, but the margins are very small and we have to be very aware of that. But this is the game, and we have to be focused in what we do and what we want to do, and don’t get too down or too excited after winning. So they are going to make mistakes, and they are going to make decisions that - from here it’s very easy to say ‘why have you done that’ - but they are there on the pitch, and let’s give them support because they need it. The energy and the connection they have in that stadium with them is phenomenal and that gives us a real chance and makes me believe that we can do it. With the youth and academy players that we are bringing in, with the signings that we made, with the qualities that we had. Because today was decisive when you have total control of the match and you are 2-0 up, Ronaldo comes in out of a nothing and is with Gabi and manages to score a goal. He needs to go through these experiences to understand, OK what trigged that moment, when you go from here to there - and give him support. To come with a victory against that team is great and I think it’s what the players deserve. Especially with the characters, and personalities that are in that team. Then when they missed their penalty, and we made the change in shape and scored the goal, I think that’s where we won it. I think it was a phenomenal game for the spectators and the fans.

Nuno Tavares (LB) – 3/10 – Showed willingness to charge up and down the left flank and that enthusiasm got him his goal, although the rest of his shooting was horrific. Cedric (RB) – 3/10 – The quality of crosses on show from Cedric was horrendous. He was all over the place. Aaron Ramsdale (GK) – 5/10 – The goalkeeper had a shocker. On the ball he did OK in the shorter passes, but going long he lacked the accuracy. That goal was vitally important for the Gunners, who then coasted through to secure a massive three points when it looked so unlikely.
