Only seven points separate Ulster in second and the eighth-placed Cell C Sharks, meaning every point matters – and with only one trophy to win this season the pressure is on Ulster to wrap up home advantage through to the semi-finals. Accordingly, McFarland has gone full strength for the inter-pro, making just three changes to the team that lost to Toulouse last week as Stewart Moore, Matty Rea and Jordi Murphy are introduced. The southern province arrive in Belfast just three points behind Dan McFarland’s side in the race for the top play-off spots, with Ulster currently holding the advantage in second place.

URC: Impressive Munster put Ulster to the sword (The Irish Times)

Munster: Mike Haley; Keith Earls, Chris Farrell, Damian de Allende, Shane Daly; Joey Carbery, Craig Casey; Jeremy Loughman, Diarmuid Barron, Stephen Archer; ...

More significant was the belated introduction of Ian Madigan, with Lowry reverting to fullback, which sparked Ulster into life and gave their game width. Jaco Pweypur then wrongly adjudged flat pass by Earls to Farrell was forward, and followed that up with three penalties in a row as Ulster went to their maul again. Munster were knocking on the door of a third try soon after the resumption when Earls earned a penalty from Casey’s clever kick in behind and Ulster needed a pick-me-up. Stuart McCloskey provided it, picking off Carbery’s cross-kick inside the Munster half one-handed and grubbering in behind, Ulster then tapping a penalty into the corner and their maul rumbling for Rob Herring to score. Ulster’s only route to the try line was their maul. Suddenly, their season is alive with possibilities.

Munster hold off Ulster to earn priceless away win (RTE.ie)

A first win for Munster in Belfast for five-and-a-half years, and it could hardly have come at a better time.

The clock was ticking, and with seven minutes to go Ulster finally got a breakthrough. The next score felt huge, and Ulster were handed the chance to get it when a series of penalties led them back into the corner. Again they returned to the Munster 22 only to concede a penalty, this time hooker Brad Roberts finding himself isolated before holding on at the ruck. Ulster needed a shot of life, and they got it on 47 minutes with their opening try of the game. 📺 Watch live on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player: https://t.co/ppdfuAyEpa… 📻 Listen live on RTÉ Radio 1: https://t.co/Jp93eRJn4x 📺 Watch live on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player: https://t.co/ppdfuAyEpa… 📻 Listen live on RTÉ Radio 1: https://t.co/Jp93eRJn4x 📺 Watch live on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player: https://t.co/ppdfuAyEpa… 📻 Listen live on RTÉ Radio 1: https://t.co/7eKrwJNXCL Rugby can swing on small moments, and it very nearly happened in the final stages of the first half, Munster conceding a penalty in the Ulster 22, giving the hosts a chance to land a blow before half time. Once again, Jack O'Donoghue impressed, continuing his career-best form, but it was the work of two Munster veterans that sent them on their way to success, with 34-year-old pair Stephen Archer and Keith Earls scoring tries in a five minute first half spell which sent them on their way.

Munster keep their momentum going with win in Ulster (Irish Examiner)

This win sees Munster shoot up to third in the table, just ahead of Ulster, and it leaves them contemplating the prospect of a home quarter-final berth ...

Munster’s defence had done enough and Carbery took his tally for the night to 14 with the last shot at goal as the clock ran out. That was too little and it was far too late. When Leinster strolled in and out of Limerick at the start of the month with a straightforward URC win things looked pretty bleak. One was a trowel job from inches out, the other a sweeping back move but they had their similarities. And to think they were flying so high after that win in Toulouse only a fortnight ago. Twice McFarland’s side botched lineouts in the opposition 22.

Munster claim URC points and condemn Ulster to third straight defeat (Independent.ie)

Oh dear. A third straight loss in the United Rugby Championship and, throwing in Europe, their fourth defeat in five games leaves Ulster looking badly ...

Cooney converted and Ulster trailed by eight. And things didn’t get much better after Stewart Moore was pinged for holding on after Casey’s grubber was nearly snaffled by Daly with the line open. UIster looked flat and disjointed, only playing in flashes which certainly added fuel to the well-thumbed theory that crashing out of Europe last weekend has left its mark. It looked another blow for the home side. This was the moment from which they had to deliver and duly did, the take by Carter the prelude to a driving maul from which Rob Herring did the needful. From the penalty, Munster went to the corner but thankfully for Ulster they made a mess of the throw though a knock-on by the home team resulted in a scrum.

Ulster eventually conceded a penalty and Munster went to the corner. Academy man Kendellen impressed once again and he won a breakdown penalty as Ulster attacked from their own half. Earls was in for Munster’s second try on 27 minutes. The scramble Munster defence conceded a penalty with Ulster going to the corner and mauling over. Munster got the first score after the break through a Carbery penalty but Ulster hit back through Herring. The Munster response was perfect and Carbery stretched the Ulster defence with a long pass out to Shane Daly before a high tackle on Carbery allowed the out-half kick Munster level.
