Plus, the Brazilian still maintains a great level of physicality and aerial ability to boot. Richarlison being up front could actually be a much better recipient of that creativity from Iwobi if it remains at this high level. Frank Lampard has confirmed that Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be absent for between ten days and two weeks after picking up a small injury in Everton training this week. He’s much more suited to crosses into the box, using his superior heading ability or getting into dangerous areas inside the six-yard box. The Birmingham-born player is one of the few members of the Everton squad to have impressed this season but he's found things difficult in recent weeks and needs to rediscover his form from earlier in the campaign. He’s more likely to be making those runs in behind the centre-backs to get on the end of dangerous through balls, and more likely to drop back and join in a little earlier in a move too. Even if Calvert-Lewin was fit for this match, in his current form and considering the way Everton have set themselves up, I’d have been tempted to drop him in favour of Demarai Gray on the flank regardless. The 25-year-old was in the side the last time the Blues were in action against Manchester United, and was expected to keep his place as he continues to chase his first goal of the calendar year. Everton are currently three points clear of the bottom three with a game in hand and that could be extended to six points with victory over the Foxes tonight. This might be one of those occasions where the fans need something of a spark from those on the pitch to inspire them. The fans in the Gwladys are doing their best to get a few songs started, but this isn’t exactly the cauldron of noise that this stadium has been to push the side onto important results in recent weeks. As their starting line-up suggested, they are here to play and the last thing Everton needed was to be chasing this game.

Everton vs Leicester: Opposition Analysis | Opportunity Knocks (Royal Blue Mersey)

With tough games coming up the Blues must seize this chance at home to put more points on the board.

Just three points clear of relegation rivals Burnley (albeit with a game in hand), Everton face some arduous games in the near future: a visit to Anfield, followed by hosting reigning European champions Chelsea and then a return match against tomorrow’s opponents at the King Power Stadium. The Blues have all the advantages against Rodgers’ side, in terms of freshness, backing by the raucous Goodison Park faithful and ample time to work on a game plan. Maddison, deployed either behind a striker or, as more recently on the right is on course to break a personal record for goals scored in the league (currently on eight) and is a dangerous playmaker (3.55 SCA90 this term). Breakthrough star Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is proving himself a genuine box-to-box midfielder in his debut campaign in the Premier League, offering indispensable energy and putting himself about defensively. Tielemans is an elite midfielder who controls much of Leicester’s play, a well-rounded and intelligent technician with an excellent passing range, who is contributing almost three shot-creating actions per 90 minutes (SCA90) played in the league. Defensively, the visitors have been missing key players throughout the season and have looked uncharacteristically vulnerable, conceding four times on the counter, joint fourth (with the Blues, again) in the league. Leicester’s visit to Goodison Park is the sixth of nine fixtures they play this month and their overall form has been good since the end of February, registering seven wins from 12 in all competitions. In the past two completed seasons, he’s led the team to back-to-back fifth place finishes in the league and a first FA Cup final win for the east Midlands outfit.

The Toffees have also beaten the Foxes in three of the last four league meetings at Goodison, so recent history is on their side. The Foxes were unbeaten in three and will now look to get back on track against an Everton side fighting for their lives. The Toffees are three points clear of the drop zone with a game in hand on Burnley and a win would go a long way to securing their top-flight future.

Manchester City v Brighton, Everton v Leicester: football clockwatch ... (The Guardian)

Join John Brewin for updates from the Premier League matches being played on Wednesday.

Having made the FA Cup final and recovered from exiting the Champions League, Chelsea have less at stake but Thomas Tuchel is not one for letting up on his players, though his team did lose this fixture in May last year when the Champions League final had been reached. Manchester City v Brighton (8pm UK time kick-off): Brighton were very good on Saturday at Spurs, to follow up beating Arsenal the previous week, and looked to pose a bigger threat to City than Liverpool did to Manchester United last night. Newcastle v Crystal Palace (7.45pm): Perhaps Palace’s season ended in that rather drab semi-final loss to Chelsea, but Newcastle have been fun to watch on the field of late, with Bruno Guimarães already hitting levels of Geordie South American folk hero of Nobby Solano levels. To face Crystal Palace, Newcastle make no changes from the team that beat Leicester while Palace make four changes from Wembley, including the return of Conor Gallagher to the team. Kevin de Bruyne is risen for City, and that’s a big deal, not least because Leandro Trossard, the Brighton match-winner at Tottenham, is absent. He is already on the bench and doing much better. The confidence he has to receive the ball in any area of the pitch shows a lot of courage and then there’s his work ethic as well. City are knocking on the door, and with real menace. It’s rancorous at Everton, where the home team have gone close after a slow start, Richarlison missing a good chance. Marcel Bout has departed from his role as head of global scouting after eight years with the club. Jim leaves the club with our warmest thanks for his significant contribution and our very best wishes for the future. On a more genuine note, I am pleased for Poch to land a league title given how often the trophy stick seems to be used to beat him.”

This match felt like a huge opportunity for Everton but you’re never going to achieve to amount to much if you can’t string two results together. 10 minutes to go and Richarlison hunts down a corner for Everton. Could this be the moment? Everton player ratings for the 1-1 draw against Leicester City at Goodison Park in the Premier League. Everton are currently three points clear of the bottom three with a game in hand and that could be extended to six points with victory over the Foxes tonight. It might not have been the victory that Everton craved but that scruffy, deflected goal by Richarlison in stoppage time could have earned the Blues one of their most-precious points of the season, writes Chris Beesley. Frank Lampard's side return to their home stadium this evening looking for another precious three points as they bid to move clear of the relegation zone.

Everton 1-1 Leicester: Richarlison rescues point for relegation ... (Sky Sports)

Report and free match highlights as Richarlison leaves it late to salvage point for relegation-threatened Everton; Toffees now four points clear of ...

The level the players played at was a really high level. Once we get into the second half we just need a wee bit more composure in the final third of the pitch to close the game out. At 1-0 you always have to go right to the end and unfortunately just at the end we conceded the goal. It's a small run but it is the bounce of coming off a good result against Manchester United to get another point on the board. It can be an easy thing to throw at the players that they lack spirit or desire and they certainly don't. Something we haven't been able to do well enough in my time here is draw games when we are either are not playing as well as we should do, and there have been games recent where are performances were good and we got nothing.
