Kevin O'Callaghan, 11, was injured in a "freak accident" in Paris while on a "dream holiday" with his family at Disneyland.

"I remember when we got the tickets he was so excited. He suffered the accident while in a soft play area and was left paralysed. The accident occurred in February and Kevin's sister Rachel said that while he is definitely getting stronger with "some movement" in his hands, his condition at the moment "remains unknown".

He obviously hoped he would be out of hospital fast but he is positive and trying really really hard to stay positive. “At the age of 11 he is a very sporty young lad so is missing his cycling and other sports. “He is such a positive boy and is trying so hard but the end result is very much unknown. He was transferred to the Necker Enfants Malades Hospital where he underwent surgery for compression of his spine within a day of the accident occurring. “After the freak accident Kevin had to have emergency surgery. The youngster was transferred to hospital where scans revealed the gravity of his injuries.

Locals have set up a birthday card appeal to show Kevin O' Callaghan how many people are thinking of him on his 12th birthday.

The O'Callaghan family are welcoming cards from anyone who wants to send a message of support to Kevin for his birthday on May 1st. Young Kevin O' Callaghan is one of eight siblings. "He has to undergo another surgery soon and he is missing out on a lot of things, like having a party at home, potentially his confirmation, and the Ed Sheeran gig that he was so excited to go to," Rachel said.

He was rushed to hospital where scans revealed the seriousness of his injuries. "We got some bad news last week because he has to have another operation. The 00:40 Heuston/Cork special services after the Ed Sheeran concert on Sunday morning(24/04/2022) and Monday morning(25/04/2022) have been cancelled - MH April 20, 2022 Taking to social media on Wednesday, Irish Rail announced that a special late-night service that was due to bring passengers from Heuston Station in Dublin back to Cork had been cancelled due to a "lack of demand".
