Northern Lights to be visible from some Irish counties as solar storm ... (Irish Mirror)

The solar storm is projected to hit on Thursday, raising concerns that there could be power, GPS and radio blackouts around the world.

"Flares are our solar system’s largest explosive events. A solar flare "is an intense burst of radiation coming from the release of magnetic energy associated with sunspots," according to NASA. A solar storm is due to "directly hit" the Earth on Thursday bringing with it fears of blackouts and satellite disruption.
