Leo Varadkar has made a particularly sly dig at Ryan Tubridy and The Late Late Show while giving a speech in the Project Arts Centre.
The scheme will see a payment of 325 Euro per week paid to 2,000 artists nationwide in an effort to promote the creation of new work while allowing for greater stability within the sector. The backhanded comment against the long-standing Irish programme comes as the Government seek to further promote the arts, with the core aim of the scheme being to target the income instability of those working in the sector. Speaking at the conference today, the Tanaiste was quoted saying; โIโll never forget watching Normal People during that first lockdown.
Many were quick to pick up the comments, with some suggesting it was an unintentional dig at Ryan Tubridy.
The new scheme will examine, over a three year period, the impact of a basic income on artists and creative arts workers.
