It follows the news that Mr Warburton faces an investigation by Parliament’s Independent Complaints and Grievance Scheme (ICGS) over claims relating to his conduct. The Sunday Times reported that two women had made formal complaints to the ICGS about Mr Warburton’s behaviour and a third woman had also made allegations about his conduct. The allegations were published by the Sunday Times and Mr Warburton has issued a vigorous denial.

The MP has been advised to stay away for Parliament while an independent investigation into his behaviour is under way.

The ICGS was introduced in the aftermath of the Me Too movement and revelations of years of sexual harassment and abuse within Parliament, where aides have often struggled to obtain redress because they are usually employed directly by an MP with no right of appeal to other authorities. They have told the MP to stay away from Westminster while the investigation is ongoing, although they have no power to ban him from the parliamentary estate. Government whips were blindsided by the reports, it is understood, and suspended Mr Warburton shortly after they were approached by journalists.
