Woman, 51, dies during charity climb in Co Tipperary (RTE.ie)

A 51-year-old woman who became ill while taking part in a Climb with Charlie event in Co Tipperary has died.

Ms O'Grady, from Mitchelstown in Co Cork, was one of a group climbing the Galtymore as part of a series of fundraising events for the Irish Motor Neurone Association and Pieta. The events were organised in support of retired RTÉ broadcaster Charlie Bird, who climbed Croagh Patrick in Co Mayo. A 51-year-old woman who became ill while taking part in a Climb with Charlie event in Co Tipperary has died.

A FILE will be prepared for the Coroner's Court after the death of 51-year-old mother of two Cora O'Grady.

Ms O’Grady was near the summit of 918m-high Galtymore about 1pm on Saturday when she became unwell. She was assisted by paramedics who made efforts to resuscitate her. An inquest will occur in due course at South Tipperary Coroner’s Court.

Cora O'Grady collapsed on Saturday when she became unwell near Galtymore summit.

It is understood Ms O’Grady was near the summit of 918metre-high Galtymore at about 1pm when she collapsed and the alarm was raised. Gardaí from Cahir were notified of the tragedy. Ms O’Grady’s body was removed from the mountain and taken to University Hospital Waterford where a postmortem was scheduled to take place to establish the cause of death.

Cora who was climbing in the Galty mountains took ill and passed away. Everybody was helping out and we were overwhelmed with the amount of money raised. It was all set up in the community centre with refreshments for people coming back and people signing in when they came back. She left Kings Yard in Kilbehenny for the top of Galtymore but fell ill on her journey.
