Everton have published their company accounts for the 2020/21 season and they show why staying in the Premier League is so important to them.
The loss of Usmanov as a main sponsor shouldn’t affect the club too seriously in the short term. This would fall to a parachute payment of around £40m in the Championship, and while the club should have had relegation clauses written into their contracts, it has been reported that this may well not be the case. But all of this does press home the fact that Everton need to survive in the Premier League. Relegation would see the club’s TV (and prize money) income fall significantly. With that gone, the task for the rest of the campaign is simple: stay in the Premier League. But even as international matches were taking place, Everton found their way into the headlines with the publication of their company accounts for the 2020/21 season. For weeks, the FA Cup had been a glimmer of light in a dismal season.

Meanwhile, the Hammers have a renewed home defensive focus. Everton is in a weird spot. And the Toffees have conceded multiple goals in every league away trip this season.
Everton return to Premier League action following the international break on Sunday afternoon as they travel to face West Ham United at the London Stadium.
Accounting for the first three campaigns of the Premier League being 42 matches, the average amount of points to secure survival has been 37. That puts them three points ahead of Watford in 18th having played two games less than the Hornets, and four points ahead of Burnley in 19th - with the Blues taking on Sean Dyche's side shortly after their upcoming trip to the London Stadium. Josh Tymon was allowed to drift in behind Davies and the ensuing effort deflected off Blades defender John Egan and into the net. He made 87 touches of the ball, second only to colleague Tim Ream, and recorded the highest number of aerial duel wins with three. A rejig saw van den Berg come on to replace a forward as North End boss Ryan Lowe looked to shore up defensively. Away from Anfield though, a clutch of Liverpool players have other causes to fight for as the season nears its conclusion. Phillips played the full 90 minutes in an entertaining game, putting in some crucial blocks along the way. Before then though, the Reds have a Champions League quarter-final first leg with Benfica to negotiate.

He has proven to be one of Liverpool’s most reliable players and will likely slot right back into the lineup against Watford. Henderson rounds out arguably Liverpool’s best midfield in this match. He’s been a constant in the Reds lineup for almost every competition and will slot back into the lineup against Watford.
Liverpool take on Watford as Jurgen Klopp's side look to go top of the Premier League. A victory would see Liverpool move two points ahead of Manchester ...
Will Jurgen Klopp's side go top of the table or will Watford spring a surprise? Jurgen Klopp's side ran out 5-0 winners when these sides met at Vicarage Road earlier in the season, but they won't be taking anything for granted as It looks as if Gomez will be at right-back today as Alexander-Arnold is only on the bench. Watford have made it difficult for Jurgen Klopp's team at times, but as things stand Liverpool will be going top of the league. Watford then create a chance themselves, with the ball falling to Sarr, whose effort goes over. Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Joe Gomez and Curtis Jones all start as Liverpool make four changes from their last Premier League game. Liverpool certainly have had things their own way and Kamara is working hard as he looks to stop Salah from making a major impact. Following the subsequent corner Cucho Hernandez requires treatment following a clash of heads. It's expected that Salah will be replaced soon, with Sadio Mane poised to enter the fray. Watford then miss an excellent chance, with Sarr playing in Joao Pedro, who drags his effort wide. 65 mins: Fabinho plays a neat pass in towards Salah, whose effort goes just over. 82 mins: Jurgen Klopp looks a little concerned, with victory still not secure for his side.

The Reds will hope for a relatively comfortable lunchtime in front of their own fans, given they travel to Benfica on Tuesday before a trip to Etihad Stadium next weekend. Watford, meanwhile, are out to go level on points with 17th-place Everton in their fight for survival. First place in the Premier League will be Liverpool’s if they can avoid defeat at home to relegation-battling Watford in today’s early kick-off.
Football365 - Did we only do this arbitrary feature because of how comically far ahead Liverpool are of everyone else? Yes.
There are only six players with 12 or more goals in the Premier League this season, and three of them are at the same club. If the general trend is for lots of players scoring some goals being more useful than one or two scoring lots of goals, Liverpool make a compelling case for ‘lots of players scoring lots of goals’ and frankly the other teams are foolish not to have tried it. The 45 scored by Salah, Jota and Mane alone is one more than Arsenal in total and at least three more than any side outside the top seven has managed. The £100m man Romelu Lukaku doesn’t even make this top three, while five of top scorer Mount’s goals have come against Norwich and Watford with a couple more against Everton and Leeds. The other was against West Ham, which is fair enough. Languishing in mid-table here but flying in a different feature about teams with the most number of players who have three or more Premier League goals this season. They’ve lost their last four games with just a single goal scored and still have to play six of the top eight in their nine remaining games. Bergwijn’s injury-time nonsense at Leicester gets him the nod for us ahead of January signing Dejan Kulusevski, while the use of “injury-time” and “January signing” both serve to highlight the paucity of Lucas Moura’s Premier League output this season. We fully expect Sterling, Mahrez and De Bruyne to end the season with a perfectly even split of goals. Harry Kane is the only Englishman with more Premier League goals than Toney, and even then just barely. But Wolves’ season has been built on stinginess at the back rather than the free flow of goals at the other end. Clearly now a far better side than they were with relegation worries now but a distant memory, but their sheer dreadfulness for much of the campaign lives on in these numbers. The first misleading entry on the list with Wolves currently eighth in the league and likely to remain there at worst given a 10-point cushion over their nearest pursuers.

Such a record should instil confidence for the visit of the relegation-threatened Hornets on Saturday, but a glance back at the horrors of last season shows how different things were for Liverpool in the world of the mid-day kick off 12 months ago. Jota had given the Reds a second half lead but in the 93rd minute, Albion were awarded a penalty thanks to the intervention of VAR again, with Pascal Gross making no mistake from the spot. READ MORE: Barcelona face carnage behind Mohamed Salah transfer reality as Liverpool move on But as Liverpool prepare to face Watford on Saturday in a 12.30pm kick off at Anfield, I quick look back at similar-timed matches this season shows that, in stark contrast to last season, the Reds have not let an unwanted kick-off time get in the way of a good result. If the rout of Palace in the December gave Kopites a break from the midday blues momentarily then they would return with interest on February 13, when Brendan Rodgers' Leicester City inflicted defeat on Klopp's side at the King Power Stadium. A fine Salah strike gave Liverpool the lead as late as the 67th minute, but it was all downhill from there. The Reds next early kick-off arrived on October 16, with a trip to Vicarage Road. Now under the guidance of Roy Hodgson, Watford will be hoping that there will be no repeat on Saturday of the 5-0 mauling that they were subjected to in the reverse fixture. The Reds notched an emphatic 7-0 win against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in a 12.30pm kick-off on December 19, but that was as good as things got.

Wolverhampton’s modest success is due in large part to a stingy defense that has the fourth-best defensive record in the Premier League this season. In addition to their home form, the Eagles have also showed a penchant for being giant-killers. Arsenal have been playing strong stuff since the holidays, but Palace won’t be a straight-forward fixture for the Gunners and the Eagles have already shown to be a banana skin for plenty of the big fish in the Premier League this season.
Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester United and West Ham are all in with a chance of Champions League qualification - but how will the top six finish?
Arsenal hold all the aces, having climbed to fourth while still having a game in hand, but their record of beating the biggest teams is poor and they still have Chelsea and Manchester United to face, not to mention West Ham. No-one is catching the top three of City, Liverpool and Chelsea. They are streets ahead of the rest in terms of quality. With City and Liverpool occupying the first two places, I fully expect Chelsea to cement third spot and Arsenal to win the race for that coveted fourth Champions League slot. Arsenal still have a wobble in them - and Antonio Conte is capable of driving even an erratic Tottenham team into fourth. They have no distractions, nice fixtures, points in the bag and games in hand. Tottenham should clinch fourth spot, with United, Arsenal and the Hammers taking the Europa League places. Mikel Arteta has done a superb job to get the Gunners to improve on eighth place last season and got a lot of big calls right like offloading Pierre Emerick Aubameyang. They also have a three-point advantage and at least one game in hand on chasing Tottenham, Manchester United and West Ham. The likes of Wolves, Villa, Leicester etc have left themselves too much to do and time is running out. And I’m going for West Ham to surprise everyone by nicking fourth place, because they also have a fixture list that can help them ambush the sides above them. And Arsenal look in better shape than Spurs for that fourth spot. It is much tighter for the lesser continental cups with five points splitting Wolves in eighth and Spurs in fifth.

A 2-0 win at Anfield turned up title race pressure on Manchester City.
Primarily a centre-back who can play on the right, the 24-year-old, who due to the form of a defence which has conceded just seven Premier League goals at home has been limited to only 15 appearances, picked his spot. His stand-in Joe Gomez, making only his second Premier League start of the season, produced a cross of which his England team-mate would have been proud, whipped in to the near post in a space between centre-half and right-back. Only team-mate Mohamed Salah (20) has scored more in the top flight than the Portugal international’s 14, which secured a 10th successive home win for only the ninth time in the club’s history.

Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester United and West Ham are all in with a chance of Champions League qualification - but how will the top six finish?
West Ham to finish seventh with their squad too thin to challenge for the Europa League and the top four. The Gunners will lose at Chelsea but should have the momentum to beat Spurs and Manchester United in their head-to-head meetings before the end of the season. On the basis that such a talented squad will surely click at some stage, Manchester United can go on the sort of run that would give them an unlikely fourth place finish but Arsenal will fade to sixth, Spurs will be a steady fifth and West Ham will finish seventh. The top three places are already decided - and I think Arsenal have got the consistency and momentum to clinch fourth and a return to the Champions League. Tottenham have enough to hold off Manchester United for fifth - meaning the Reds' next manager will be in the Europa Conference League because I'm taking one of the top three to also win the FA Cup. With Liverpool already winning the Carabao Cup, I reckon they will be joined by West Ham. Arsenal’s visit to Crystal Palace to face their former captain Patrick Vieira on Monday night will be crucial. Arsenal hold all the aces, having climbed to fourth while still having a game in hand, but their record of beating the biggest teams is poor and they still have Chelsea and Manchester United to face, not to mention West Ham. Tottenham have a manager with more experience in the shape of Antonio Conte, while United appear too inconsistent to finish above their London rivals, while the Hammers have the distraction of the Europa League to contend with. West Ham can take the other position and it'll be interesting to see the dynamic of the other places. Mikel Arteta has done a superb job to get the Gunners to improve on eighth place last season and got a lot of big calls right like offloading Pierre Emerick Aubameyang. Behind them Spurs and Manchester United look set for fifth and sixth as West Ham will understandably have one eye on success in the Europa League where they face Lyon next in the quarter-finals. As it stands, Manchester United don't have the consistency to claim fourth, nor do Tottenham or West Ham. I would expect Spurs and United to finish in the Europa League places and West Ham to finish seventh, to qualify for the Europa Conference League. I fancy Antonio Conte will steer Tottenham into fourth because of his experience and know how plus Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son who give them the edge over Arsenal, in my view. For all that Arsenal have a game in hand and points in the bag, Manchester United remain a group of individuals capable of putting a run together. A case of as you are: City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal in that order followed narrowly by Spurs then a gap to West Ham and another to Man United and Wolves. An interesting sub-plot may develop if one of the top three win the FA Cup with United and Wolves probably vying NOT to qualify for the Europa Conference in seventh place. There are four Champions League, a Europa League and a Europa Conference League places up for grabs, with another Europa League spot opening up if anyone but Crystal Palace win the FA Cup. Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester United and perhaps West Ham are all vying for the two remaining, and much prized, Champions League spots, with Wolves also in the mix for a top-seven finish. Arsenal have real momentum and have won six of their last seven Premier League games.
Manchester City returned to the top of the Premier League table after a brief hiatus with a 2-0 victory at Burnley.
23 - Man City are the only side yet to drop a single point from a winning position in the Premier League this season, winning all 23 games in which they’ve led. The home side set up with a 4-5-1 formation in a bid to frustrate us. It's a busy week - first we'll think about Atletico Madrid and then after that we’ll think about Liverpool." "The goal after five minutes was important but we still had to play 85 more. The pitch was difficult because the grass was so high but we adapted. This is why we’ve fought for the last 10, 11 months. Our second was equally as impressive and Sterling was again the architect. The win means City go back to the top of the Premier League table after a brief period in second. City were playing with a swagger, enjoying long periods of keep-ball. In the 2nd half they pushed more, they went 4-4-2 and they were more aggressive. Burnley were struggling to cope. No side has ever gone through an entire Premier League campaign without dropping points when ahead before.

Ten minutes into the second half and on came Rashford, off went McTominay, and United had a natural spearhead but, now, United undid themselves. If the Frenchman can often bemuse, there was only clarity regarding Maguire and the support offered the beleaguered defender from the United fans, after he endured boos on England duty. “We knew this morning Cristiano could not play and decided to start Paul Pogba,” said the interim manager. Rangnick wanted the last two and a half weeks since United’s previous action – being dumped out of the Champions League by Atlético Madrid - to be a “reset” for the term’s final nine games. In the end we are not happy with the result but the second half was OK.” The second half was better, we were struggling to find rhythm in the first half, possibly because of the international break.
Diogo Jota's 20th goal of the season in the first half was followed by a late Fabinho penalty.
But the warning they could not sit on their one-goal lead came just before the hour when Sarr and Joao Pedro combined to isolate Joel Matip only for the latter to roll a shot past the post with only Alisson to beat. The England midfielder curled home a trademark dead-ball effort early in the second half after Jack Harrison had given Leeds an interval lead.

Only Manchester City have managed to produce that many in one game this season and they won that match 7-0 against Leeds. The problem is so obvious. Neal Maupay has shown in spurts what he can do but this performance was another reminder of where Brighton need to invest in the summer. One thing is for certain, and this has been said before, they need to find a striker that can be relied upon throughout the season. Liverpool's win over Watford was a case of job done and move on, as Jurgen Klopp's side laboured to a 2-0 victory over the relegation strugglers. Tuchel and Chelsea supporters hope that this loss to Brentford will ultimately act as a jolt to sharpen the side up for the big challenges ahead. That is a question you'd have answered with a resounding no a few months ago as Graham Potter's side looked certain for a top-10 finish. Before kick-off, it seemed Brentford's Premier League survival was more likely to rest on a clash with Watford in a couple of weeks' time. "We didn't play the best football possible today but it was enough," he said. Possibly. The best performance of the season?

The way Liverpool are set up means, they are always going to leak a few chances here and there for the opposition, but Klopp's team are fortunate because they have an impervious goalkeeper who is capable of making vital interventions to ensure the Reds are not punished for their mistakes. Alisson made the save look easy, but it was a heart in the mouth moment for supporters in the stands, and one that required sharp wit and plenty of mettle from the Liverpool goalkeeper — traits for which he has become renowned since arriving at the club. He only made one more save after that, but his ability to make the right save in moments that matter is a vital quality. The Liverpool goalkeeper didn't have to do much else in the game. But in the end, Liverpool did enough to come through with a world-class moment from Diogo Jota and Joe Gomez, before a fortuitous (but wholly correct) VAR decision that has often eluded the Reds this season.
