The season is expected to have six episodes in total. Derry Girl premiered on Channel 4 in the United Kingdom in 2018 and quickly became a hit, with season 2 following barely a year later. However, because of the COVID-19 outbreak, the filming had to be pushed back.

Channel 4 listings have confirmed that the first episode of the new season of Derry Girls will air very soon indeed.

Derry Girls received funding from Northern Ireland Screen. There was much excitement over recent months as the cast and crew arrived in the city to film scenes for the new season. Writer Lisa McGee, the stars and crew of the show are expected to turn up the red carpet outside Derry’s Omniplex Cinema on Thursday evening before they join invited guests at a preview screening of the new season.
