THE Gaelic Players Association is set to present its contact hours policy initiative to the GAA's sports science group later this afternoon.
For instance, the working document outlines situations where five sessions a week might be needed in pre-season. The GAA have full backing from all counties on their stance of covering expenses for a maximum of four sessions per week at 65 cents per mile - with anything additional being covered locally. The players group wants the document to be signed off by all parties and monitored by the GAA to ensure county boards and managers stick to the policy guidelines.
Ireland have put the past behind them under their new coaching ticket, according to back row Edel McMahon.
It's been kind of parked up since November, we all got to move on from that and it didn't even need to come into this campaign." Everyone else at the club is working part-time or is working full-time and training full-time. "But as a whole, I thought we got to grips with the gameplan that Greg wants us to set out with very quickly in the last two weeks. "I think the November series was probably the time when we did put that past behind us. "But also, Greg has come in with a plan and it's quite consistent in what he wants, very constructive. "Even just looking at the possession [66-34% in Wales' favour] and how much we converted, there was a lot of things that we could fix.
Sligo GAA have withdrawn from the All-Ireland Under-20 Hurling Championship, feeling they would be unable to field a team to the standard required.
"How is it that we only have so many strong hurling teams? The senior side will play Derry in the Division 2B final on Saturday after several seasons of improvement which has led to promotion to the fourth tier of hurling. In a statement the Yeats County said: "The team is drawn from a small playing pool and with other demands on the players โ both from other hurling commitments, college etc, it was not possible to do the preparation that would be appropriate for a team representing the county.
