Northern Europeans once again dominated the top spots in the UN-sponsored World Happiness index.
This year, data from social media was also used to compare people's emotions before and after the Covid-19 pandemic. The latest list was compiled before the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Ireland rose two places in the latest list to 13th, while the United States rose three places to 16th, one ahead of Britain. France climbed to 20th, its highest ranking yet.

On the other hand, Afghanistan’s humanitarian crisis led to the country being placed at the bottom of the rankings. In the 10th edition of the World Happiness Report 2022 this year ahead of the annual International Day of Happiness on March 20, Finland has again topped the list as the happiest country in the world for the fifth time in a row.
The researchers behind the the 10th annual World Happiness Report say average life evaluations have remained "remarkably resilient during Covid-19.
"The pandemic brought not only pain and suffering but also an increase in social support and benevolence," the report reads. Altogether, the global average of these three actions was up by 25% in 2021, compared with pre-pandemic times. That's a three-spot gain from last year, when the U.S. was 19th.
The Philippines is the second happiest country in Southeast Asia, according to the 2022 World Happiness Report.
“In every global region, there have been large increases in the proportion of people who give money to charity, help strangers, and do voluntary work in every global region," it said. This benevolence has provided notable support for the life evaluations of givers, receivers, and observers, who have been gratified to see their community’s readiness to reach out to help each other in times of need,” the report read. The Philippines garnered a score of 5.904 this year.
