Forward scores 2-5 as school becomes first from Kildare to win All-Ireland title.
Seán Broderick added a point and Naas needed that five-point cushion as Brendan’s clawed back that second goal at the end of stoppage- time. Captain Cian McMahon rose to the occasion too with a series of scores and with just two minutes to go the Killarney side trailed by just a point, 1-15 to 2-13. But Cummins’s second goal in the 58th minute proved the insurance score and allowed the side managed by Pádraic Cribben to absorb a late, late St Brendan’s goal.

The Killarney boys would rue shooting three successive wides after that and as an end-to-end feast of attacking football developed, Naas CBS were the more clinical. Sean Broderick’s point stretched the lead to five points before an injury time finish to the net from Sem substitute Mark O’Shea gave the Kerry side hope again. Two goals from man-of-the-match Kevin Cummins and one from Fionn Cooke proved crucial as Naas saw a six-point half-time lead whittled down to a single point with three minutes remaining with the Kerry school valiantly trying to pull off a dramatic comeback win.

ALL-IRELAND POST-PRIMARY SFC 'A' (Hogan Cup) FINAL. Naas CBS 3-14. St Brendan's Killarney 2-15. Having been put through the wringer on several occasions ...
With a couple of changes on the resumption, and galvanised two minutes into the second half by Shine’s instinctive brilliance as he took advantage of a Naas defensive error to arrow a stupendous effort to the net, it was game on in a big way. Yet another kick-out was gathered by Naas, and when Cummins got possession in the danger zone, he beat Harry Byrne, before nonchalantly, and almost arrogantly, chipping the St Brendan’s goalkeeper with a spell-binding piece of attacking sorcery. After a rollercoaster journey, choc-a-bloc with many more highs than lows, St Brendan’s end up All-Ireland runners-up. Back came Naas to settle the nerves through yet another Cummins white flag, but his opposing number 15, Shine, fired straight back with a beauty of his own. Six points down at the interval, 2-6 to 0-6, the Corn Ui Mhuiri kingpins were in disarray, after a nightmare conclusion to the opening half that bordered on self-destruction. Anybody who had witnessed their previous matches in the competition knew that these Sem lads wouldn’t be dragged under the water.
