Vibrant colours, catchy tunes and talented dancing made up the majority of the St Patrick's Day Parade in Cork city with a number of dance schools, ...

It is a nice opportunity for the pupils and the staff members to join together. There was plenty of colour, music, laughter, noise, and excitement which was great to see. As we are St Patrick’s school it is fitting that we make a day of it and celebrate the occasion in style. The sun shone and there was a lovely atmosphere as the students waved their flags. “The weather was brilliant, and the kids really enjoyed themselves. “There was lots of dancing and music. My friends are in Nemo Rangers so we would know a lot of the lads marching. “The students were encouraged to dress up and wear green. Even the smallies from the preschool got to enjoy it. We used to always come in so its like a tradition for us. I'm very impressed with the theme, it gets me choked up a little bit. I used to work in healthcare in Canada.”

Upwards of 50000 people lined the streets of Cork City for the welcome return of the St. Patrick's Day Parade.

The theme was "Earth/An Chré" - a celebration of the world in which we live. The 12 boys and girls were made honorary members of the force for the day. 250 club GAA members took part in the parade. The greenway will be opened later this year. In Killarney, St Patrick's Day is traditionally regarded as the unofficial start of the tourist season. Business and home owners were also encouraged to floodlight their buildings in green. The theme of the parade in Tralee was "Let's Go Green", to celebrate the development of a 13-kilometre greenway between the town and the port of Fenit. There was pride of place for the Clonmel Majorettes today as up to 300 of them, from just three-years-old to teenagers, took part in today's St Patrick's Day parade in the town. Old garda uniforms were also on show. The festival centrepiece was a parade of local cultural and sporting groups through the streets of the town. A contingent of serving and former gardaí also took to the beat to mark the centenary of the An Garda Síochána. In the country's second city, it was a parade marked by plenty of colour, music and pageantry watched by a clearly delighted public.

Gardaí will have a visible enforcement presence across the country over the St Patrick’s weekend, targeting drivers under the influence of alcohol and drugs, and those consuming alcohol in public places.

In further solidarity with Ukraine, Cork City Hall will continue to fly the Ukrainian national flag and will remain lit up in blue and yellow for the duration of the St. Patricks Festival, as will several of the city’s notable buildings. The group will be led out by recent arrivals to Cork, who will be surrounded with the support of friends from Poland, Romania, Moldova, Hungary, Georgia and Lithuania, representing the richness of Eastern European culture, national costumes and music. Polish community support group Together Razem has invited people in Cork from several Eastern European countries to parade with them under a banner of solidarity – Together4Ukraine, to show their support to the Ukrainian people.

Healthcare heroes and Ukraine's fight for freedom were the dominant themes as St Patrick's Day parades across Ireland attracted their biggest crowds in ...

In Sligo, the parade adopted a new route and the theme “Together”. Kilkenny was also hosting a four-day St Patrick’s Festival with the parade as the core event, at which local Paralympic hero Mary Fitzgerald was the grand marshal. To celebrate their back-to-back All-Ireland senior hurling titles, members of the Limerick senior hurling panel were the parade grand marshals and were joined by a very special guest, the Liam MacCarthy Cup. Fittingly, the theme for the Limerick parade was “Belonging and Identity”, with a host of family-friendly events from street music to treasure hunts. Hundreds of people wore blue and yellow as a symbol of support for Ukraine, with the Fermoy Concert Band playing the Ukrainian national anthem as one of the parade highlights. Franciscan monk, theologian and historian Luke Wadding succeeded, against all the odds, in having St Patrick’s Day recognised as a major Church holiday and, of course, it later became a worldwide day of celebration.
