As they always tend to do, Kieran’s battled back and when they got within two points of their opponents with the wind at their back they appeared to be in prime position to catch the Limerick side in the final stretch. It was nip and tuck up until that point with Kieran’s leading 0-5 to 0-4 after Shine and Joe Fitzpatrick impressed early on but the final 10 minutes of the half belonged to Ardscoil Rís as they hit six points on the trot to go into the break with a commanding advantage. Kieran’s themselves were in a seventh consecutive showpiece and they were hoping to make it five wins in six, and despite Harry Shine giving them an opening minute lead, they were chasing shadows for the majority of the contest as the Limerick school were fully warranted winners.

The teams then went point for point before Alex Sheridan and Anthony Ireland Wall had goal attempts for Kieran’s saved and in a game where a goal was going to be vital Ardscoil struck for one in the 55th minute when Kennedy found the net. Kieran’s still led 0-5 to 0-3 by the halfway mark of the half after Harry Shine and Joe Fitzpatrick contributed a pair of points each but Brian Dowling’s side faded later in the half when six points in a row from the Limerick team gave them the edge.

They had recorded seven wides prior to this but finished the half on top for a five point interval lead. Niall O'Farrell (free) ended the barren spell for Ardscoil Ris and when Rian O'Byrne was fouled O'Farrell stood over a 20th minute penalty. Niall O'Farrell popped up with a point from play and from a free and it was 0-14 to 0-10 with 10-minutes on the stopwatch. O'Brien went close to a goal but his shot was saved out for a '65 at the near post - O'Farrell pointed the resulting '65 to put the Limerick side back in front for the first time since the 15th minute. Man of the Match Shane O'Brien levellled and then O'Farrell pointed from the sideline at the Cusack Stand side to tie up the final at 0-6 each. Backed by the breeze Ardscoil Ris scored the final seven points of the opening half to bring a 0-11 to 0-6 lead into the half time dressing room beneath the Hogan Stand.
